2. Reflection paper about the film:


a. Describe the 19th century Philippines as represented in the film.
- Philippines as shown in the film are decent, if you had a connection with the Spaniardso
r of you are a part of a family of a Spaniards you are considered rich, as well as being a servant
of the church. The convicted persons or prisoners are being taken to parade and some are
murdered publicly, also the way of the transportation are done by horses or “ kalesa”.
b. What can you say about the film’s representation of the 19th century?
-They really studied the original way of living in the Philippines during the 19 th
century, also the way of speaking, the dialects are good in the video. They also show the way
of executing the prisoners and imprisoning innocent people without trial which is quite
common that time.
c. What is the main question that the film seeks to answer?
- “Who is the filipino?” kulas usually asked and became an eye-opener for us filipinos,
especially now that more and more economical advancements are occurring and as a known
third world country.
d. What is your own reflection based on the film and your understanding?
- The film shown how the struggle of Philippine independence, and the life of an
ordinary boy trying to explore and discovered more of the country. The film shows the
transition of administration form Spaniards to Americans. It consistently contains portrays
live of the Filipinos under ruling of their colonizers. It has evidently shown the inferiority of
the Filipinos in their own country which then made the concept of national identity of the
Filipinos to be obscured and vague.
