How Language Shapes the Way We Think

After analyzing the video "How Language Shapes the Way We Think" by Lera

Boroditsky, I believe that shape and language are related in the sense that they both

allow us to communicate meaning based on shapes we are familiar with. As Lera said,

the language we speak affects the way we conceive of the world and our ideas about it.

Language is central to our experience of being human, and the languages we speak

profoundly shape the way we think, the way we see the world, the way we live our

lives.

Regarding the last three questions she asked, I think the way I do because of

different factors: maybe because of genes, upbringing, thoughts and situations to which

I was exposed (including experiences, people, religion, education, etc.), causing us to

think in a certain way (either positive or negative) and therefore see the world that way.

Moreover, we can think differently by being creative, looking around us with another

energy; another way can be to learn something new, allowing to open a door to worlds

of ideas and possibilities; losing focus may be another factor to think differently, letting

our mind disconnect from a certain problem and relax for a moment; another way of

thinking, and one that has served me a lot throughout these years, may be to learn from

failure, generating a new idea to be born. Finally, taking into account the

aforementioned, we can create new desired thoughts, focusing on the good things in life,

learning from mistakes and believing that everything one wants can come true.
