Read, reflect and choose one of the following quotes about literature.

Support your choice and then relate to another one.

We will discuss your choices the first class.

Literature is a luxury; fiction is a necessity. ~G. K. Chesterton

Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the
necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this
respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become. ~C.S.
Lewis
Literature is where I go to explore the highest and lowest places in
human society and in the human spirit, where I hope to find not
absolute truth but the truth of the tale, of the imagination and of the
heart. ~Salman Rushdie
That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your
longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from
anyone. You belong. ~F. Scott Fitzgerald
Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and
poetry. ~Cassandra Clare
“De los diversos instrumentos inventados por el hombre, el más
asombroso es el libro; todos los demás son extensiones de su cuerpo…
Sólo el libro es una extensión de la imaginación y la memoria”. Jorge
Luis Borges. (Viajas a lugares increíbles, te teletransportas a otro mundo,
te metes en el libro)
“Lee y conducirás, no leas y serás conducido”. Santa Teresa de Jesús.
“Creo que vale la pena leer porque los libros ocultan países
maravillosos que ignoramos, contienen experiencias que no hemos
vivido jamás. Uno es indudablemente más rico después de la lectura”.
Adolfo Bioy Casares.
“Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent,
literature is dumb, science is crippled, thought and speculation at a
standstill. They are engines of change, windows on the world,
lighthouses erected in the sea of time. They are companions, teachers,
magicians, bankers, of the treasures of the mind. Books are humanity in
print”. Bárbara Wertheim Tuckman.
“You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to
stop reading them”. Ray Bradbury.

“De los diversos instrumentos inventados por el hombre, el más

asombroso es el libro; todos los demás son extensiones de su cuerpo…
Sólo el libro es una extensión de la imaginación y la memoria”. Jorge
Luis Borges.

I chose this quote because I think that literature plays a very important
role in the lives of people who love to read; For example, whenever I
choose books, they are usually romantic or dramatic novels because I
love how they make me feel; it is like reading takes me to a parallel and
imaginary world, away from reality for just a moment, also because
some books are so descriptive that connect me emotionally with the
story and their characters. And I related this quote to that of Adolfo
Casares,

“Creo que vale la pena leer porque los libros ocultan países maravillosos
que ignoramos, contienen experiencias que no hemos vivido jamás. Uno
es indudablemente más rico después de la lectura”. Adolfo Bioy Casares.

Both quotes talk about the fact that reading distracts us from the routine
and allows you to travel to other worlds, as well as helping to have
greater imagination and creativity; Reading gives us incredible and
unique experiences. It allows me to know, discover, live other lives,
mobilize my emotions, distract myself, have fun.
