Office Politics and Organizational Networks

Most contemporary organizations are characterized by workplace politics simply because

individuals present their needs, emotions, ambitions, and insecurities into their professional life.

It essential to observe the workplace politics in an organization, especially when taking new

responsibilities because they dictate the interpersonal interactions at the workplace. Workplace

politics influence the organizational networks among the employees and the management teams

(McCornack & Morrison, 2018). It is important to look beyond the current organizational teams

and focus on the formal hierarchical of the organizational structure. Focus on making a feasible

organizational network with fellow employees, management, and senior executives.

Be sure to observe the prevailing workplace politics and maintain a healthy relationship

with other employees. Always avoid aligning yourself to one group at the workplace. Obtain

consent from fellow employees while making personal relationships at the workplace to avoid

inappropriate influence that kills confidentiality. Every person wants to be successful at the

workplace thus, they focus on creating organizational networks that are essential for personal and

organizational growth (McCornack & Morrison, 2018). Office politics emerge when employees

fail to agree with one another on how to achieve success at the workplace making the conflict

difficult to manage. Organizations have limited resources which trigger competition at the

workplace, thus creating office politics.

Virtual Networks

modern technology. Technology has enabled individuals to meet in virtual platforms, thus

conducting business transactions and disseminating organizations' management policies.

Effective communication serves as an essential tool for coordination and implementation of

organizational strategies to the virtual teams.

Virtual teams eliminate office politics since employees are located in different locations,

thus avoiding physical contact between them. Virtual networks manage individuals from diverse

cultural backgrounds and societal inclinations. Virtual networks avoid the day-to-day physical

interaction between employees and their leaders, which eliminates workplace politics. People

create workplace networks through virtual platforms, but they may never interact in the real

world. Virtual networks enhance organizational competitiveness and sustainability because of

the cultural diversification in the workforce. Virtual networks allow organizations to create

working relations between employees in different locations, enhancing diversification and

differentiation of the workplace culture.
