ILO-ILO CONVENTION CENTER
Iloilo Convention Center is a convention center in the Iloilo Business Park in the district
of Mandurriao, Iloilo City, Philippines. It stands on the site of Iloilo's former airport, Mandurriao
Airport. The state-of-the-art convention center designed by Ilonggo architect, William
Coscolluela. The design was inspired by Iloilo's Dinagyang and Paraw Regatta festivals. The
paraw is a native double outrigger sailboat in the Visayas region, used in the annual Paraw
Regatta Festival sailboat race. Abstract designs of the famous Dinagyang Festival are featured
on the glass walls of the center.
GRAND PRIX: HOMAGE TO DODJIE LAUREL by Elizalde Navarro
This Grand Prix: Homage to Dodjie Laurel was made by Elizalde Navarro on year 1969.
It’s made out of Wood and aluminum with readymade machine parts which are racecar driver’s
helmet, standing tall amidst a pile of periodicals with the size of 22 cm x 26 cm. According to the
artist the art tackled themes like mythology or the frailty of man who attempted to run like gods.
Jerry Navarro’s assemblages like this were often of portraits that also served as masks that
presented a face to the world while hiding the true human emotion within.
