TY Diary Week

August 31st - September 3rd

Dear Diary

On the first day of TY, we got to go on a fun adventurous trip to Causey farm in
Navan. All the animals there were so cute. We baked brown bread and we got to
do some bog jumping. Which by the way I didn’t do, But the people who did say it
was really fun.
Wednesday morning, we started the day off with Media Studies. Where we going
to do a project about ourselves using different types of media, for example a
magazine cover and a variety of pictures that represents who we are. Super excited
to begin that project.
After media studies, we had Politics and Society which we begam the class talking
about if Donald Trump is a good president or a bad one. I am still not sure if he is
good or bad, but it was interesting listening to both sides of the facts about him.
Next was Siamsa which is Irish language and culture. On the Wednesday classes
we are going to be learning basic words in Irish. Then on the Thursday class we
started learning about the history behind Irish dancing.
RSE was the last class of the day and the class was based on Vulnerability and
what it feels like to be vulnerable. We listened to a TED talk about the subject of
being vulnerable and it was very intriguing and educational.
French was the first class on Thursday morning and we started talking about
ourselves in French. We also learned on the Friday’s French class, what other
countries around the world also speak French. There were loads of countries that I
didn’t know even spoke French!
After French came Mathematics and We started learning about artists that use
math’s in their art pieces. It looks so cool. Some of the artists are Piet Mondrian
and Frank Stella. We even started making our own designs using inspiration from
these artists.
Next was Yoga!!!, Yoga was held in the Convent and it was enjoyable and very
relaxing. We started off we a little survey about if we have done yoga before or not
(I had ). We then did some basic yoga moves and some meditation, which was very
calming and soothing.
Physics was next and all of the class planted some Hyacinths. It’s going to be
interesting seeing them grow into beautiful flowers which will hopefully happen
around December.
After Physics and Siamsa, we had our Jesuit Refugee Programme. It was very
emotional learning about all the refuges around the world that have to leave their
county because of war, famine etc. One of nuns from the convent was talking all
about how she has been to some countries around Africa and it was genuinely
fascinating listening to all the stories that she told us.
Friday morning, we had Computer studies and we started going through the steps
in starting to make our TY portfolios. When you read this week, it will already be a
bit filled up.
Next was Russian, which I was really looking forward to because I have Russian
roots, but unfortunately the Russian teacher left the school. So, I will find our next
week what going to happen. Instead, we played GeoGuesser with a substitute
teacher. Yay
After our free class we had English where we started on a very fascinating movie
script called “The Inspector calls”. Its about a very wealthy family, that each of the
member have a connection with a suicidal death of a young woman. Can’t wait to
see what happens throughout the script.
Physical Education came after, and what we did was have a little competition
about who can come up with the most interesting fact about our bodies. Did you
know 12% of people in the world dream in black and white and the other 88%
dream in full colour. That’s so cool! We will find out the results next week.
And the last classes of the day were Choir and French. In Choir we didn’t do any
singing because the singing masks that the school will provide us with hasn’t
arrived yet. So, we just read our books instead, which was very relaxing.

Write to you next week,

Diana Hambardzumyan 😊
