RESEARCH PROBLEM MILLENIALS ARE EATING FEWER BURGERS
Objective finding- Defining what the problem is:
The problem area is defined by the issue that millennials have greatly reduced their consumption of burgers leading to a drop in sales for established players in the fast-food industry. Fact finding- Gather Information: During the 1980s to 2010s there was a drastic increase in the number of individuals suffering from obesity, millennials were projected to carry this forward and be big spenders in fast food spaces, but they tend to have a completely different outlook to life. Millennials instead of going through the predicted route opt for healthier lifestyles which was all about transparency in freshness, quality, sourcing and quantity of the ingredients. On top of all this millennials love to explore new cuisines which have been made affordable and in reach due to the rapid globalization. Problem finding- Define the problem correctly: Millennials have reduced the consumption of junk food due to the onset of healthy food movements and spreading idea of eating healthy, ethically sourced food. Idea finding- Generate solutions to the problem: Some changes that can be implemented are:
Changing of menu and adding more ‘Millennial-friendly’ ingredients.
Conducting extensive surveys and market research to find out what do the customers really want. Lastly, fast food restaurants can start using air fryers instead of deep frying. This will reduce the oil content in the items hence making it healthier and appealing to the customers. Adding more healthy options like salads. Adding a separate section for sugar-free, low fat and gluten free dishes. Solution Finding- Evaluate and choose between possible solutions In my opinion the 2nd solution is the most important one as it would then be possible to put a face to the problem being faced making it easier to implement the 1 st solution of adding the ingredients required. The 3rd, 4th and 5th solution is a more novelty in these cases and can be used mainly for marketing to the health-conscious strata of the society. This would lead to a sudden increase in sales and also be more inclusive in it’s menu leading to an increase in goodwill towards the company as people with allergies face a lot of problems in eating out due to non-availability of proper substitutes.
