Test III
1. Simple sentence is a sentence containing only one independent clause.
An independent clause is a group of words that can stand alone as a complete thought.
These kinds of sentences have only one independent clause.
They don't contain any subordinate clauses.

2. A compound sentence is a sentence with at least two independent clauses, and must be
joined by a comma, semicolon or coordinating conjunction.
It has two or more simple sentences added together, and does not contain any dependent
clauses.
The term coordinating conjunction sounds complicated, but in fact there are only seven of
them and they are all short.
FANBOYS is the mnemonic for coordinating conjunctions, but the most common of these
coordinating conjunctions are and, but and or, in that order.

3. A complex sentence must be connected by subordinating conjunctions, since it should have

one independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
An independent clause is a phrase that would make sense, since it was a sentence on its own.
A dependent clause will not form a sentence on its own, but when these two types of clauses
appear in a sentence it would create a complex sentence.

4. This type of sentence contains at least two or more independent clauses, and must have at
least one dependent clause, which is called a compound-complex sentence.
Writing compound-complex sentences allows us a great deal of flexibility to explain how,
why or when something happened, it's important to understand which parts of the sentence are
independent clauses and which are dependent clauses so that we can punctuate it correctly and
avoid writing a run-on sentence.
