Anthropometric Measurement

-prepare the materials needed

-Perform hand washing and wear gloves

-place the infant on the table supporting the occipital area and buttocks to prevent headlock.

-then cover the body parts which are not included in the procedure to prevent hypothermia.

-Start the procedure in a cephalocaudal technique.

-With the infant lying on a supine position, measure the head circumference by placing the tape
measure behind the infant’s head running across infants most prominent head part which is slightly
above the brow line, so the normal value is 34 to 35 centimeters.

-Next measure the chest circumference with the infant lying on a supine position, bring down the tape
measure behind the infants back and run the tape measure across the infants chest, it should be along
the nipple line, the normal value is 31 to 33 centimeters.

-Next measure the abdominal circumference with the infant lying in a supine position, bring down the
tape measure behind the infants waistline run it across the abdominal area slightly above the umbilical
area, the normal value is 31 to 33 centimeters.

-Next measure the length, position the infant in a lateral position left or right and the length if your non-
dominant arm should be supporting the length of the infants body, place the tape measure starting from
the back of the head following the contour of the infants body, run the tape measure along with the
infants spine, press against the buttocks, press against the popliteal area and press against the hillside,
the normal value is 50 centimeters.

-Make the infant warm and comfortable do after care, remove gloves and do handwashing

-document all the findings in the infants chart including all the actions taken in case there are abnormal
findings.

Bathing

-Prepare for the materials needed

-place infant at the bathing area

-never leave the infant at the area alone or unattended

-Use warm water in bathing the infant and test for its temperature.

-Use a soak towel and wipe the infant’s body gently, after that place the infant on the tub

-Using a mild soap wash the face, ears , neck, and body. Paying attention to creases and folds

-After that apply mild or hypoallergenic shampoo and washes the hair and scalp.

-Rinse and dry thoroughly

-Make the infant warm and comfortable do after care,


Cord-Care

-Prepare the materials needed

-Perform handwashing and wear gloves

-restrain or let somebody hold the infant’s hand and feet.

-Disinfect area around the base of the cord going out on circular motion.

-Disinfect from the base going up the cord using one cotton ball in each stroke

-Inspect the cord for any undesirable signs

-Wipe cord stump with antiseptic solution.

-Make the infant comfortable do after care

Leopolds maneuver

-In performing Leopolds maneuver, first is Identify the patient’s name.

-Introduce yourself and explain the procedure-this is to reduce anxiety and enhances cooperation

-Instruct the patient to empty her bladder-in doing this it promotes comfort and allows for more
productive palpation.

-Perform handwashing using warm water – handwashing prevents the spread of possible infection and
using warm water aids in client comfort.
