I. INTRODUCTION:

The scope of domains within which subordinates in an organization can make


decisions are defined by business policy. It allows lower-level management to deal
with difficulties and concerns without having to engage top-level management
every time a decision has to be made.
A business policy is a collection of regulations established by the company's owner
or leadership. Some policies are governed by legislation, such as federal privacy
rules, while others are created by company leadership to ensure that particular
standards are met.
Business policies are crucial because they influence everything from legal
responsibilities to employee happiness and a favorable public image. Policies
ensure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to what is expected of
them. A corporation may have policies that apply to many parts of the business.

II. AREAS OF LEGAL COMPLIANCE TO BE FOLLOWED:

1. Privacy Policy:
The Privacy Act of 1988 in Australia is the main component of Australian
legislation that governs how personal information about persons is
handled. This encompasses both the federal government and the private
sector's acquisition, use, storage, and disclosure of personal information.
It applies to businesses having an annual turnover of more than AUD
3,000,000.
✓ Purpose:
All businesses especially in the tourism and hospitality field need
to collect customer private data such as Name, D.O.B, credit cards, etc. A Privacy
Policy is not only a legal requirement for disclosing your methods of protecting
personal information, but it's also an appreciated way to demonstrate to users that
you can be trusted and that you have procedures in place to protect their data.

1. Businesses acquire, use, and disclose Personal Information
lawfully and fairly.

purposes of collecting information.
3. To the extent needed by applicable laws and regulations, the
businesses respond to requests from individuals to disclose,

2. Smoking Policy:
Smoking policy is designed to secure a healthy and safe environment for
employees and staff. It promulgates regulations on when and where
smoking of cigarettes and any type of e-cigarettes are allowed in the
workplace
✓ Purpose: Protect the health of all employees in the enterprise.
✓ Procedure:
1. Workers shall be informed of this policy by signs placed
throughout the buildings/sites and in vehicles, as well as the
employee handbook and induction training program.
2. Violations of this policy will be dealt with according to the
company's established disciplinary procedures.

3. During the day, smoking is only permitted outside the
business, away from any guest access areas. Before leaving for
a smoke break, get permission from a supervisor. After you've
smoked, remember to wash your hands. Smokers should also
be aware that the odor of smoke on their clothing or breath
can be irritating to visitors.

3. Environment Policy:
For the sake of its customers, staff, and the surrounding community, the
business aims to protect and improve the condition of the environment.
The hotel is committed to ensuring that the company develops and
implements working processes that do not contribute to the further
development of environmental damage.
✓ Purpose:
Encourage employees in the business and customers to give their
hands to protect the environment. Build a clean, pollution-free
environment.
✓ Procedure:
1. To instill a sense of environmental responsibility, include,
educate, and teach all employees about environmental issues.
2. Evaluate the environmental impact of all operations and
products, and aim to eliminate any that cause more
environmental harm when operationally feasible.
3. All documents must be printed on both sides, whenever
possible, using recycled paper.
4. Using technology such as ‘go-to meeting' and material
presentation and review through projector instead of handouts to
hold paperless meetings.
5. Use a paperless payroll system with automated time reporting.

2018 (Amendment Act) has taken effect. It affects how Victoria

being. Therefore, the policy of the business also needs to update
to comply with the regulations legally. The business must inform
the customers and employees about the policy modification.

4. Equal Opportunity:
This policy's goal is to put these ideas and mandates into action in
compliance with anti-discrimination law.
✓ Purpose:
prohibits all forms of discrimination and harassment, and
provides employees and applicants with equal employment
opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age,
national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected
veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.

Customer service is a top priority regardless of age, gender, sexual

politely.
✓ Purpose: Customer service policy defines what is expected of
employees at work and guarantees that everyone is focused on
the customer. They provide employees with a minimum set of
best practice standards to use in their work when dealing with
internal and external clients.

1. To support this policy, all staff must be aware and properly
trained.
2. Any service interruptions should be reported to supervisors,
Campus Operations, and the Human Resources department,
as needed.
3. Understand what the customers want by customizing
customer service policies to meet clients' demands. Set up a
system to track client complaints, difficulties, and comments
so the business can learn more about what customers expect

business can improve and avoid them in the future.

service's mission statement serves as a reminder and compass.
It's a goal that expresses how the company wants to engage
with customers, and it's a wonderful approach to keep staff

employees from abusing drugs and alcohol.
✓ Purpose: Business has a long-standing commitment to providing
a safe, quality-oriented, and productive work environment in
accordance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. As a
result, businesses must apply this policy to prevent drug and
alcohol addiction and misuse in the workplace.

1. Observing behavior and keeping track of incidences can lead
to the conclusion that there is a problem.
2. signs may be present in the buildings or workplace.
3. When a supervisor or management notices a job performance
or behavior indicative of possible alcohol or drug issue, he or
she should discuss it with the employee and inform them of
available assistance options.

III. INFORMATION DISTRIBUTION

A good agreement of planning is required to ensure that all persons


involved in hotel activities, be they staff, management, or shareholders,
have the relevant information at the right time and can take the
necessary actions, modifications, or choices on current projects.
Effective information delivery necessitates the selection of the
appropriate tools and processes to guarantee that the information
reaches the people who need to be reached in the most efficient manner
possible for them to assess and/or make decisions.
There is some method that businesses distribute new updates on policy
to the employees:
1. Arrange quarterly required all-employee sessions and at least
monthly divisional employee meetings.
2. Post staff training resources in the employee area, especially on the
HR Whiteboard for current training and updates, and provide
written resources to enhance training.
3. Employees should be emailed about changes to the hotel's policies
and procedures, they also should be required to produce signatures
or a confirmation indicating that they have read and understood the
key modifications.

IV. COMPLIANCE OFFICER

A compliance officer is an employee who ensures that the company adheres to its
external legislation and regulations, as well as its policies.
There are some duties and responsibilities of compliance officers:
• Creating, implementing, and administering a compliance program for a
company.
• Collaboration with state and national regulators.
• planning, implementing and supervising risk-management programs.
• Organizing and scheduling staff compliance training if needed.

VI. CONCLUSION:

Laws and regulations in Australia must be strictly


adhered to by businesses and their employees through
the implementation of policies and procedures, which
help to ensure a more successful and safe working
environment throughout the country.
