Why do I need to teach Phonemic Awareness?

The science of reading is teaching us how

foundational phonemic awareness skills are to
reading. In fact, a statement from David
Kilpatrick sums it up nicely: The most common
source of reading difficulties is poor phonemic
awareness.

These word lists provide you with the tools to

teach your students the essential phonemic
awareness skills they need. This is an auditory
skill and all you need are words to work with.
With this resource you have over 200 lists which
is well over a 1000 words!

How can I use these word lists?

Put the cards on rings by individual skill for

convenience. You can use them so many times
throughout your day!

✓ During line up times when you are leaving your

room.
✓ During your carpet time when you transition
from one activity to another
✓ During guided groups.
✓ During whole group time as a warm-up
✓ Any time you have an extra 5 minutes!
