“WATER ABSORPTION EXPERIMENTS IN PECHAY PLANT”

OBJECTIVES

The study aims:

1) To know if the pechay plant absorbs the water.

2) To determine if the coloring food affects the Pechay plant in water.

3) To know the significance difference when Pechay plant added to water with coloring

food.

4) To know the importance of absorption of water in plants.

5) To know more about water absorption in Pechay plant.

MATERIALS

 Pechay Plant

 Water

 Paring Knife

 Red or Blue Coloring Food (Powder or Liquid)

 One clear container

 Measuring Spoon

 Measuring Cup

PROCEDURE

1) Prepare all the materials that will be using in the experiment.

2) Fill the clear container with water using the measuring cup.

3) Add a few table spoon of coloring food using the measuring spoon to the measured water.

Mix until you can no longer see through the water.

4) Get the Pechay plant and cute the bottom end of Pechay stalk with paring knife.

5) Place the stalk of the Pechay plant in the water with coloring food and start observing.

6) Wait until you see the colored dots on the bottom end and until the coloring food goes up

of the Pechay stalk.

7) When the water with coloring food is already goes up in the Pechay stalk and the colored

dots is already see, continue to observe.

8) When the experiment is done, record all the observations or data that you gathered during

the experiment.
CONCLUSION

I therefore conclude that my experiment is successful because I saw that the water with

coloring food is affects the stalk of the Pechay plant. This experiment proved that the water with

coloring food absorbs by the Pechay plant. In this experiment I used powdered food coloring and

I observed that the observed in this experiment that there are significant difference when the

Pechay plant is added to the water with coloring food and the Pechay plant is slowly get died or

dehydrated but the coloring food is still goes up to its stem. Also in this experiment I understand

more the importance of absorption because the plants cannot live without absorbing nutrients to

their own needed. Absorption of water in plants are important because how can you say that

there’s a process of living the plants without absorption of the nutrients and need of it and most

of the water absorption is carried out by the younger part of the roots. Just behind the growing tip

of a young root is the piliferous region, made up of hundreds of projections of the epidermal

tissue, the root hairs. This Experiment helps me to know more about the absorption of water with

coloring food in Pechay plant because I didn’t know that the color of it is can goes up from the

stalk to the branches of it. Also In higher plants water is absorbed through root hairs which are in

contact with soil water and form a root hair zone a little behind the root tips. Root hairs are

tubular hair like prolongations of the cells of the epidermal layer (when epidermis bears root

hairs it is also known as pilloferous layer of the roots.

This experiment also proves that absorption has a vital role in this world because it helps

us to get our nutrients needed in our body and for the plants, to get their nutrients needed to grow

and live healthy. This experiment can contribute to further understand why absorption of water

in any plants is important to live.
