Event organizer

 The role of an event organizer is a simple yet complicated role as you are
tasked with scouting locations, soliciting bids, managing vendor
relationships and client communication creating and negotiating
contracts, and managing budgets, liaise with sales and marketing teams
to publicise and promote the event, manage a team of staff, giving full
briefings, organise facilities for car parking, traffic control, security, first
aid, hospitality and the media, oversee the dismantling and removal of
the event and clear the venue efficiently, so you need to capable of
multitasking .

 The skills you will require are:

 organisational skills and attention to detail
 communication and interpersonal skills,
 negotiation skills when looking for the best price from
venues, suppliers and contractors
 time-management skills and the ability to work under
pressure to ensure the efficient running of an event
 project management experience
 problem-solving skills and diplomacy, sales and marketing
skills to promote the event and attract sponsorship
 the ability to manage budgets, a flexible, target-driven,
proactive approach, administrative and IT skills, self-
motivation and enthusiasm.

Event planners have great organizational skills. Some people can work in
chaos, but as a planner it’s important to rely on process and method if
you are part of a team. So as for me I am quite an organised person so I
feel I will make a competent event planner as I am already quite
organised and enjoy planning and creating an effective and cohesive
system for whatever am doing.

Event planners are savvy networkers. Networking is an essential event

planning skill since the events industry is based on relationships and is
heavily people driven. As am quite a people person I believe I would
succeed in this role as am always quick to make the right relationships
and would have a great network around me.
Event planners are good at bargaining which is an important event planning
skill. It is crucial for event planners to be able to negotiate a contract with a
sponsor or get the best possible deal while booking a venue. I see myself as a
good negotiator as I have worked within a customer’s service environment
where I must convince customers to buy goods and services.

Things I will need to improve on is a basic understanding of an event because

understanding of how events work is an important event planning skill. As a
planner, I should know how to create a floorplan or draft an RFP, how to
review a contract and analyse event data. these are stuff am not yet very good
at due to my inexperience.

Another skill of an event planner I need to improve on is passion for planning

because every successful event planner infuses qualities like passion and
enthusiasm in their everyday work. They are self-motivated and live to feel a
pang of pride after delivering an event that their guests truly enjoyed, and this
is an area I struggle with as I haven’t experienced being an event planner.

I can justify how my attributes match those of an event organise as I am tech

savvy I know how to use technology and know the ins and out of it with makes
me a very reliable person who can sort out anything technologically related,
and the way economy is moving towards a more technologically based era as it
is more effective , cheaper and environmentally friendly, also as an event
planner most of the work you do and your planning will be online which I will
excel at. For example while I was working as a library assistant I would note
have to use the computer systems to log books in and out assist customers
who would like to use the library computers and also help find where books
are using the online system.
