Question Three

3a) Differences between a web address and an e-mail address

A web address is an Internet address that denotes the location of a specific webpage, file or document on the
World Wide Web While an email address identifies an email box to which messages are delivered.

A Web page has a unique address, which is called a URL or Web address while E-mail is the transmission
of messages and files via a computer network.

3b) the advantages e-learning to the learner

Self-Disciplined

E-learning provides learners with 20 hours of Project Management training. The online student takes
responsibility for their own course of studies hence learning to develop the techniques of self-discipline,
self-motivation and time management. Every one of these disciplines is of immeasurable value

Online learning is self-paced

Students who study online can plan their own time schedule, without having to make personal sacrifices in
order to meet the class attendance requirements of teachers and traditional universities. The research has
demonstrated that self-paced learning leads to increased student satisfaction and reduced stress, resulting in
improved learning outcomes for everyone involved.

E-Learning is student-centered

Student-centered learning (SCL), also referred to as learner-centered education, is a modern learning method
which aims to put the students in the center of focus, rather than the teachers. The reason why I listed it as an
advantage of E-Learning is that student-centered learning goes hand in hand with E-Learning. Online
learning is fundamentally student-centered, due to the easy implementation of student discussion boards and
peer grading systems.

E-Learning is cost-effective

Due to simplified logistics and lowered travel costs, among other factors, learning institutions who utilize E-
Learning can expect to save 50% to 70% on overall training costs

Learning from everywhere

With e-Learning, students can learn from the comfort of their own home and can study anywhere. This can
avoid the stress of travelling to a venue which may be miles away from home or having to organise
accommodation which entails extra cost and inconvenience.

Flexibility

E-learning is extremely flexible allowing you to study at any time which suits a student. This is great for
those with full time jobs or those with children as a learner can schedule to study when it best suits.

Focused Learning

E-learning allows a learner to focus more on subject matter which they may not feel as confident on. A class
environment can sometimes make them feel uneasy if they are struggling to understand a certain topic.
Alternatively, he can skip over other areas which students are more comfortable with.
.

3c) Disadvantages of e-learning to the learner

E-Learning can cause social Isolation

The E-Learning methods currently practiced in education tend to make participating students undergo
contemplation, remoteness and a lack of interaction. As a result, many of the students and teachers who
inevitably spend much of their time online can start experiencing signs of social isolation, due to the lack of
human communication in their lives. Social isolation coupled with a lack of communication often leads to
several mental health issues such as heightened stress, anxiety, and negative thoughts.

E-Learning requires strong self-motivation and time management skills

Lack of self-motivation among students continues to be one of the primary reasons why students fail to
complete online courses. In traditional classrooms, there are numerous factors which constantly push
students towards their learning goals. Face-to-face communication with professors, peer-to-peer activities,
and strict schedules all work in unison to keep the students from falling off track during their studies.

Lack of communicational skill development in online students

E-Learning methods are proven to be highly effective at improving the academic knowledge of the students.
However, developing the communicational skills of the students is an area often neglected during online
lessons. Due to the lack of face-to-face communication between peers, students and teachers in an online
setting, the students might find that they are unable to work effectively in a team setting. Neglecting the
communicational skills of the students will inevitably lead to many graduates who excel in theoretical
knowledge, but who fail to pass their knowledge on to others.

Cheating prevention during online assessments is complicated

Unfortunately, one of the biggest disadvantages of E-Learning continues to be cheating through various
methods. Compared to on-campus students, online students can cheat on assessments more easily as they
take assessments in their own environment and while using their personal computer. The students cannot be
directly observed during assessments without a video feed, making cheat detection during online
assessments more complicated than for traditional testing procedures. Additionally, without a proper identity
verification system in place, students taking online assessments might be able to let a third party take the
assessment instead of themselves, resulting in a wholly fraudulent test result.

Online instructors tend to focus on theory rather than practice

Although this drawback of E-Learning is starting to be addressed and fixed by some of the more innovative
online learning platforms, the problem has yet to disappear completely. The problem is that a large portion
of E-Learning training providers choose to focus largely (in many cases entirely) on developing theoretical
knowledge, rather than practical skills. The reason for this is evident – theoretical lectures are considerably
easier to implement in an online learning environment than practical lectures. After all, without face-to-face
communication and physical classrooms to use as a workshop, implementing practical projects in an online
course requires significantly more prior planning than theoretical training.

The following are the components of E-Business

A good example of electronic business in Uganda is Jumia Uganda.

E-business has several components including Business Intelligence, Customer Relationship Management,
Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Management, Collaboration, online activities, and electronic
transactions within the firm.

Online Communities

Online communities also known as web communities or internet communities are the groups of people
having the same interests or purposes who use the internet to communicate with each other. It is used
between the individuals and organizations to prepare transaction decisions for example Facebook, intagram,
Jumia Subscribers.

Online Companies

It is electronic business cooperation that connects the individual companies and forms a virtual business
with a common transaction offer for example the Kikubo online and Jumia.

E-Procurement

It is also known as supplier exchange in which business to business, business to government, business to
consumer, and sales of services are made with the help of the internet. Basically, e-procurement is a way
adopted by the companies to reduce the costs and efforts by sourcing products or services electronically.
Most restaurants in Kampala are using e-procurement to supply food to their customers.

Online Stores

Online stores are also known as e-shop, internet shop, web-store, virtual store, web-shop, m-commerce, and
online storefront. The main purpose of these online stores is to save precious time and money.

Online Marketplace

It is an electronic commerce that connects the buyers and suppliers to the services or products over the
internet. Keep in mind, the operator of an online marketplace only presents the inventory of other people and
provides the transaction facility.

The following are the rationales for data base management

To comply with regulations

Data management systems provide a better framework for the enforcement of data privacy and security
policies. More effective management means better transparency and mitigated risk of breaching regulations

To increase productivity of the end user

Deploying a database management system, assuming positive end-user adoption, will always result in
increased productivity for the users. Data management systems empower the end users to make quick and
informed decisions that can contribute to the success or failure of an organization in the long run.

To quicken decision making

A database management system helps in providing a framework to facilitate data quality initiatives. In turn,
higher quality information helps in making better, faster decisions in an organization.

To improve data sharing and data security

Proper database management systems help increase organizational accessibility to data, which in turn helps
the end users share the data quickly and effectively across the organization. A management system helps get
quick solutions to database queries, thus making data access faster and more accurate. End-users like
salespeople will have enhanced access to the data, enabling a faster sales cycle and a more sound decision
making.

For effective data integration

Implementing a data management system promotes an integrated picture of an organization’s operations. It

becomes easy to see how processes in one segment of the organization affect other segments.
