LECTURES AND REPORTS

COMMUNICATION
1 We advocate truthfulness, accuracy,
honesty, and reason as essential to the
integrity of communication.
2 We endorse freedom of expression,
diversity of perspective, and tolerance of
dissent to achieve the informed and
responsible decision-making fundamental to
civil society.
3 We strive to understand and respect other
communicators before evaluating and
responding to their messages.
4 We promote access to communication
resources and opportunities as necessary to
fulfill human potential and contribute to the
well-being of individuals, families,
communities, and society.
5 We promote communication climates of
caring and mutual understanding that respect
the unique needs and characteristics of
individual communicators.
6 We condemn communication that
degrades individuals and humanity through
distortion, intimidation, coercion, and
violence, and through the expression of
intolerance and hatred.
7 We are committed to the courageous
expression of personal convictions in pursuit
of fairness and justice.
8 We advocate sharing information,
opinions, and feelings when facing
significant choices while also respecting
privacy and confidentiality.
9 We accept responsibility for the short- and
long-term consequences of our own
communication and expect the same of
others.
*Communication that is offensive to the
receiver or anyone affected by the
information contained in the message

Classroom Lectures:

especially to the teacher.

*Promoting communication climates of
caring and mutual understanding that respect
the unique needs and characteristics of
individual communicators is a need in order
to promote proper ethics in communication.
In classrooms, these are sometimes violated
when we forget to consider one's feelings
when saying a statement about something or
a joke that could disrespect their opinions
and/or individuality.
*In communication, allowing others to
speak is important. Interrupting others
would result in misunderstanding and
unnecessary conflicts and leads to a
breakdown of communication. Interrupting
others not only shows lack of respect but
does not allow the listeners to fully
understand what is being said, that often
results in incorrect assumption
LACK OF RESPECT TO BOTH

Dishonesty- providing some information
that is deceiving to the listeners (not true)
• Not listening to the reporters.
• Speak judgmentally to other
students.
• Interrupting the lectures or reporters
when discussing.
• Partially- teachers having favoritism.
• Impropriety- not acting well
mannered.

ETHICAL ISSUES IN CLASSROOM
ARE:
1. Conduct - Conduct is an important aspect
of ethical practices. Conduct can include
boundary violations, abuse or improper
relationships. In the education context,
teachers should have vision, hope and
creativity. However, be cautious as sarcasm
and cynicism tend to inhibit these qualities.
Know also that cynicism and sarcasm are
signs of anger or pain and they should be
respectfully addressed so that possible
deeper needs and concerns of instructors can
be nurtured.
2. Assessment- Assessment of students is
another “hot spot” of ethical practices.
Teachers must be honest and promise this
ethical habit. Falsification of data or
information related to assessment violates
every model of ethical conduct and law.
While on the surface, in the moment, or
initially such conduct may seem to benefit
students or the school, it in fact injures not
only both the student and school, but also
the teacher and society as well.
3. Planning- Good planning is a part of the
commitment that every teacher needs to
make as a professional. Remember, teachers
are committed to prudence. Prudence, for
centuries meant the establishment of right
goals and selecting the right means to
achieve this goal. A prudent teacher creates
the right goals and selects the best means to
accomplish the goals.
*Ethics in communication are violated in the
classroom because some topics that used to
be discussed in the students are offensive
and sometimes is because of poor
communication skills of the students and
also for the environment, if the environment
was noisy the teacher cannot deliver her
lesson to his/her students that will cause
misunderstanding of the students or
misinterpret what the teacher says.
ESSAY:
Ethics in communication are violated in
the classroom because some topics that used
to be discussed in the students are offensive
and sometimes is because of poor
communication skills of the students and
also for the environment, if the environment
was noisy the teacher can not deliver her
lesson to her students that will cause
misunderstanding of the students or
misinterpret what the teacher says. In
communication, race and ethnicity are
important for many young people. Knowing
their race and ethnicity is like understanding
their whole being. Expressing intolerance
and hatred are to be avoided. For example in
classroom lectures or reports, if the teacher
starts using the "N-word" and he/she did not
think about the effect on the students, it will
lead to being having a misunderstanding.
But because of other's poor communication
skills, the students might think that it will be
okay to use that word. Some will take the
"N-word" differently, some will take it
offensively, but for the general, it is a kind
of racism that has to be corrected and should
not be tolerated
