ASSIGNMENT
REPORT WRITING
TOPIC: DRUGS AND TEENAGERS
OBJECTIVE: My objective behind choosing this topic is myself being a
teenager and it has a great relation with this age. Teenage is the age
when we are most prone to negative habits/activities and drugs intake is
the most deleterious.
QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED IN REPORT:
1. Why teenagers take drugs?
2. What are risks and risk factors related to drugs intake?
3. How parents can help their kids in keeping away from drug?

TYPE OF REPORT: Informative Report

The teen years are often a time to explore and learn more about
themselves as they approach adulthood. Often, this involves
experimenting and testing their boundaries. The desire to do something
new or risky is a normal part of teen development. Teens might use
drugs for several reasons:
To relieve stress or boredom
To feel grown up
Due to social influence
To ease their pain
To satisfy their curiosity

Drugs can definitely be risky. When you throw together

developing minds and mystery substances, scary things can
happen. Plus, the exact same dose can affect two people in wildly
different ways.

Drugs can lead to overdose or cause psychosis.

Using drugs at a young age can be a trigger for mental illness.
Drug use can impact on punctuality and reliability, and reduce the
ability to concentrate.
By affecting school and work performance, drugs may limit future
opportunities.
Drug use may increase risk-taking behaviors, such as practicing
unsafe sex or driving while intoxicated or high.

There are several risk factors which lead teens towards addiction of
drugs. Social surrounding of a person affects most. Risk factors of
drug use includes : Low self esteem; Victim of bullying; Living
in a community with a high tolerance for smoking, drinking, or
drug use among youth; Parent or older sibling drug/alcohol
use etc.

Parents can prevent their kids from being addicted to drugs by

providing them support, attention and care. At this age children
undergo several physical, biological as well as mental changes. What
they see around them affects them a lot. And this affect differs from
person to person; same incident can affect one person positively and
other negatively. So this age requires extra care with precautions as
most kids take parents’ protectiveness negatively.
Parents can help prevention by:
Drink responsibly. Modeling responsible behavior can teach teens
more about drug and alcohol use than words alone.
Talk with your teen, but also listen.
Give them space to ask questions, too (rather than just lecturing
them).
Be aware of and involved in your teens’ lives.
Get to know their friends and how they spend their time.
