PERFORMANCE TASK #1

GUIDED JOURNAL REFLECTION- PERSONAL EXPERIENCES OF MANIFESTATION AND

EXPRESSION OF EXCELLENCE.

Write in not less than 5 sentences in each question.

QUESTIONS:

1. What is excellence?
In a dictionary, excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good in a
certain thing. I believe we all have different point of views on how and what excellence
is for all of us. As for me, excellence definitely does have something to do with
knowledge and brilliance but at the same time it should also be applied on our attitude,
our manners, and our characteristics as a good person and a role model especially to
people who look up to us.

2. How did you show or manifest excellence as a student, as a person?

Excelling is a must for students. As a good student, I express academic excellence by
being able to perform, pass, and being responsible in all aspects of education in order
for me to achieve high grades and exhibit a superior performance. To meet m expected
average, I place my school activities as one of my priorities, I actively participate in our
lectures, I see to it to attend each and every class, and I voluntarily lead groups to
develop my self-confidence, persistence and leadership abilities. Our skills, knowledge,
and capability should never be a hindrance, instead, it should be a part of our attitude
for it is the reflection of our passion and commitment.
As a person, excellence is to continuously build inner strength and be able to overcome
all life challenges. Life isn’t always going to be a smooth sailing journey but all our
failures, mistakes and downfalls are what makes us excellent and resilient individuals.
In my opinion, excellence as a person is doing the right thing at all circumstances, our
expression of integrity, passion, and virtue is what makes us excel and outstand.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” To achieve excellence, we
must rise up from all our failures, face it bravely and continue moving forward.
3. EAC defined Excellence as ‘the habit of doing only the best in all undertakings.’ What
are your habits that constantly or will eventually lead to excellence? What are the habits
you need to discontinue or taper down as they serve as hindrances for you to excel?

The school defined the word very wisely and it truly did help me contemplate on how
and what I must do to continue manifesting excellence. What are my habits that
constantly or will eventually lead to excellence? I organize my priorities. That way it is
easier for me to complete everything that needs to be done. For instance, if I have too
many school works, organization allows me to give my full focus on the tasks that have
an earlier deadline than the rest. Second, appreciating progress. No matter how little it
may be, I remind myself to be happy with every improvement I make. For an example,
waking up earlier than I did yesterday, accomplishing school works more than what I
have planned, and etc. Third, looking forward in learning. Knowledge is endless, there
will always be something more to learn so I see to it that I should always pick up
something new everyday because for me, education is key to personal growth. And
lastly, rest. Unwinding from time to time is very important to me, it is how I refresh my
mind and body whenever I feel tired. It also proven to improve mental health, increase
concentration and memory, reduces stress, and even better metabolism. That is why I
allow myself to rest and recharge.

On the other side of the coin, what are the habits do I need to discontinue or taper down
as they serve as hindrances for me to excel? Well, sleeping late. My average sleep is
six to seven hours at the best and I am aware it is unhealthy. At the worst cases, it is
sometime impossible for me to focus at a certain class or task when I don’t have enough
sleep and it irritates me, thus making me feel more uncomfortable and mind blocked.
Also, being unsure. I often doubt myself when answering assessments. In fact, I am
doubting the sentences I have written here right now. “Is this good enough”, “Doesn’t it
sound so boring?”, “What can I do to make it the best?”. It is quite but also not that
similar with perfectionism, it’s just that I always want to push myself to do better to the
point that it sometimes becomes unhealthy. However, through the help of the people
around me and self-encouragements, I am able to overcome this barriers day by day
and maybe one day, it would not be a hindrance anymore, instead, it would be a lesson.
Lessons I acquired knowledge of by the experiences I’ve come across.
