"The First Mass in Limasawa"

When Magellan's expedition on March 16,1521 (Saturday) they sighted a highland

named Zamal which was westward of ladrones,On March 17 (Sunday) after they sighting
the Zamal lsland,They landed on another lsland to the right above the lsland of
Zamal,Which is they form a two tents for the crew who was sick and had a sow killed
for them,The name of this lsland who Magellan and his comrades landed is Humunu or
Homonhon this is located at 10 degress north latitude,On that day Magellan named the
Philippines in the lsland of saint lazarus the reason why magellan named it the lsland of
saint lazarus because it was sunday in the lenten season when the Gospel assigned for
the mass licturgical office was the eleventh Chapter of St.John,Which tells of the dead.

On March 18,1521 (Monday) ln the of their second day on that lsland Magellan gave
the Filipinos anything as a gift in exchange for food and other supplies in 4
days,Magellan expedition stayed 8 days on Homonhon from 17 to the following week
March 25,ln the afternoon on March 25 they left the lsland of Homonhon.

After leaving Homonhon they see the four lsland namely: CENALO , HIUNANGHAN ,
IBUSSON and ALBARIEN.March 28,1521(Thursday), ln morning they anchored near on
lsland where they had seen a light they night before a small boat (Boloto) came with
eight natives, Magellan threw some trinkets as present.The Native paddled away,but two
hours later two larger boats (Balanghai) came,One of the Balanghai is the king on
board.Magellan invite the some of Natives to go of thier Spanish ship,but the king
remained seated in his boat.An exchange of gifts was effected.ln afternoon they
anchoring near the king village.And that day was thursday in holyweek or holy Thursday
so there was reason to celebrate through mase or misa.

March 29, Magellan slave interpreter ashore in a small boat to ask the king if he could
provide the expedition with food supplies and to say that they had come as a friends
and not as enemies , Another exchange of gifts was made.The king and his Companions
back to the ashore with the two members of Magellan's expedition as a guest for the
night and one of the two was figafetta,and figafetta enjoy his night with the king,On
March 31 (Sunday) Early morning of sunday Magellan sent the priest ashore with some
men to prepare for the mass.Later in morning Magellan landed with some fifty men and
mass was celebrates,This is the first mass that Officiated by Father Pedro Valderrama.

After the mass Magellan and spaniards returned to the ship for the noon-day meal but
in the afternoon they returned to put or build the cross on the summit of the highest
hill ,On the same afternoon while on the summit of highest hill magellan ask for two
kings to which is obtain more abundant supplies of food and they replied that there
where three parts to choose that from ceyion,zubu,and calagan of the three izubo was
the port with most trade magellan then said that he wished to go zubu,On April 1
(Monday) Magellan sent men to help with the harvest,but no work was done because
the two kings were sleeping off their drinking about the night before,April 2 (Tuesday)
and April 3 (Wednesday) work on the harvest during the next to days.April 4 (Thursday)
daily mazawa bound for cebu so those were the seven days of Pigafetta and Magellan in
masawa.
