Assistant Professor, SSIM
About the Program

Students, research scholars, professors and professional

researchers are involved in scholarly writing. All their
writings need proper citation and referencing. Among the
many benefits, citations give the work credibility and
authority and referencing preserves the integrity of the
work.

While the importance of scholarly writing is widely

recognized, citation and referencing has not got the due
importance. Several citation formats and referencing
styles are available. The choice of their usage differ
among academic fields or domains, among different
institutes and even among different publishers. This makes
citation and referencing a more complicated process.

This FDP is designed to impart the targeted participants

with conceptual knowledge, procedural knowledge and
operational skills to improve their academic writing
especially with proper citation and referencing.

Participants

The target audience are Ph.D. Research scholars, faculty

members, librarians and professional researchers who are
keen in scholarly writing.

Pedagogy

The three day FDP is proposed to be conducted ONLINE

by using a judicious mix of lecture method, presentations,
demonstrations and hands-on experience using reference
manager Mendeley.
Outcomes

At the end of this FDP the participant would be able to:

1. Understand the importance of citation and
referencing in scholarly writing.
2. Compare and contrast different citation and
referencing styles and reference managers.
3. Familiarize themselves with Mendeley which includes
acquiring e-resources from their own databases,
search engines, research data bases, web pages etc.,
