Linguistic Tools for Advanced Communicators

These tools are a form of ‘artfully vague’ laguage meaning that you need to do this with
intention in order for it to be effective. We will look at some more methods for choosing words
in a way that helps the other person to feel more rapport between you, that can help you move
them past a stumbling block, and that you let you guide the conversation without appearing to
control it, here are some examples what we actually mean.

Mind Reading:
It is the ability to indicate the thoughts of others without the normal means of communication,
especially by means of a preternatural power.

For Example:
 He has been sitting here and saying to him self, Well, this is all mind-reading.
 I know you belive this might be difficult, but it will worth it

Lost Performative
It is when someone says something that contains a rule or judgement without anyone taking
responsibility for it. It can include an implication of an idea instead of a direct statement such as
“Breathing is good.”

For Example:
 You are never going to have a problem with your nails again.
 No habit can stand up to the power of the mind.

Cause and effect relationship:

A cause-effect relationship is a relationship in which one event makes another event happen. One
cause can have several effect

For Example:
 We received seven inches of rain in four hours.. The underpass was flooded.
 Smoking cigarettes. Lung cancer
Presupposition:
A presupposition defined as something that you have not stated but is assumed to be present
or true for your statement to be understood.

For Example:
As the economy picks up, we will see profits improve here we are presupposing that the
economy will pick up eventually

Universal beliefs:
A statement of something as a universal belief implies that there is no exception to what you are
saying. Universal beliefs can be used to get person on your side and to accept or agree what you
are saying.

For Example:
 Everyone wants to be happy at work.
 If you remain positive, you will see better results.

Tag questions:
Tag question is a tool to get the other person to think about what you said and then answer it in
their mind. Thinking is always faster than what we talk so this tool can be helpful in building
agreement.

For Example :
 As we take more action, our market share goes up, doesn’t it?
 By listening more closely, you have learned much more, haven’t you?

Embedded Commands:
A command in your language without actually commanding someone to do something. These
words speak to the subconscious and form part of larger context.

For Example:
 So, looking at your priorities makes you feel better now? Here Embedded Command is
feel better now.
Now you have a complete tool box full of tools that you can use to improve your
communication skills
