Write down two examples of Charismatic, Pragmatic and Transformational

Leaders of Bangladesh and Mention “How Are They Said Leader”

Charismatic Leaders

Charismatic leader is generally referred to a passionate, self-assured leader whose activities and
qualities inspire people to operate in specific ways. Several scholars have endeavored to discover
individual distinctiveness of the charismatic leader and found five basic characteristics: A
charismatic leader possess a vision; has the capacity to communicate that far-reaching goal; to
accomplish that vision he is not afraid to take risks; has concern and compassion to the needs of
his followers, and he usually displays uncommon and exceptional behaviors. A charismatic
leader encompasses a sense of and confidence, flair and style.

In the history of Bangladesh so many charismatic leaders played a part in protecting this nation
from aggressors as well as serving this country to the fullest of their abilities. Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Mayor Annisul Huq are among two of those leaders.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

The history of Bangladesh has always been molded by the forces of extraordinary leadership,
and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, was a leader who crafted the
history of Bangladesh. The charismatic leadership of the Sheikh Mujib united the whole country
like a solid rock under one umbrella at their moment of crisis. Bangabandhu was not only the
leader of the Bengali people but also a harbinger in recognizing the privileges of the deprived
and subjugated people of the world.

Mujib may have been sturdy from outside like an oyster but his heart was the pearl inside it,
warm and affectionate which wept witnessing the pain and anguish of the general people. As a
symbol of a faith and love towards him, the common people rewarded him with the name
Bangabandhu (friend of Bangladesh) which would later become the most well recognized name
in Bangladesh as well as the world.
An excellent public speaker and a good orator, Mujib had a heavy voice that could draw a
million people to his gatherings and transmit an enchantment on them as they paid attention to
his speeches for hours on end. To build a lasting impact in their minds, he would carefully pick
phrases and symbols that resonated with the common people’s lives. The historic 7 March
speech of Bangabandhu has been often acknowledge as one of the most significant speeches over
the world among other speeches like and Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ and the
Gettysburg speech of Abraham Lincoln’s. He eclipsed all the political leaders of his time.

Mayor Annisul Huq

Carefully brushed hair, bell-bottoms coupled with collar shirts, and a dazzling, warm smile -
Anisul Haque is a name that encourages dreams, valor and inspiration. Long before he was voted
as the Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Annisul had a lasting impression as a
TV host in the hearts and minds of the people with a BTV show called “Ontorale” from the 80s.
The impulsive, alluring personality of the host made the show a staple of nationwide television
throughout that time.

As a candidate of the ruling Awami League in 2015, he had been chosen mayor of DNCC, even
though prior to that, he was not involved with any political party. Businessman, television anchor
and politician - he performed a plethora of roles in his life and he stood out in every single one of
them. Whenever he arranged an event, he would constantly seek to do something innovative and
creative. Each time a difficult situation arose, he would always apply out of the box thinking to
solve that crisis.

Annisul had a towering presence in all of his gatherings. He was friendly, affectionate and
always engaging energetically. His loud and charismatic voice made him unique leader among
the contemporary politicians in Bangladesh. He possessed an endless spring of vigor and
unrelenting spirit to create a change in society. People could not help but be influenced by his
captivating qualities to come forward to revolutionize the status quo

After assuming office, Annisul Huq boldly took many projects for further developing the quality
of life in DNCC and to transform Dhaka city into a modern utopia. Even though at times, he
sounded idealistically ambitious, to our wonder and joy, he had materialized many of his
initiatives that once looked unrealistic to many. Annisul spearheaded some qualitative changes
during the two and a half years that he led the DNCC. Annisul had a vision of a better future for
the city, but his aspirations came to an unexpected end as he passed away in a London Hospital
at the age of 65.
Pragmatic Leaders

Pragmatism is an adaptive and rational approach to leadership. When establishing strategic

objectives and goals of an organization, pragmatic leaders stress on realism over idealism. Their
main concern is to determine how the organization or team is going to get objectives completed.
They find out what the organization is able to accomplish and then set a strategy specifying how
it should be accomplished.

In the history of Bangladesh, so many pragmatic leaders have played a part in serving this state
to the fullest of their abilities. Sheikh Hasina and Dipu Moni are among two of those leaders who
served this nation proudly in diverse situations.

Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh has been gradually enjoying a positive recognition because of the earnest and
persistent efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Through her outstanding pragmatic
leadership, Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of the greatest Bangalee of all time,
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has strengthened the nation’s impression to the world
and made a noteworthy contribution to the development of the country’s economy

To face the unique challenges of this global era, the government under the leadership of Sheikh
Hasina has taken various policies and initiatives as well as amended and renewed various laws
and regulations. Her thriving career is an outcome of years of shared relentless effort provided by
her party staff. Even her stance on suppressing blunt hate speech is based on her pragmatic
leadership approach as sometimes reckless freedom of speech results in chaos or unrest in
society.

She also holds the intuitive and political insight required to guide the nation in the direction of
success and complete her ‘Vision 2021’ of transforming the state into a Digital Bangladesh. She
has demonstrated herself as a resourceful and energetic prime minister and helped advancing the
country towards prosperity.

She consistently focuses on doing the smart thing instead of always doing the right thing which
might have severe consequences to society.

Dipu Moni

Last year when Dr Dipu Moni assumed office of the Minister of Education, there was a state of
panic concerning the leaks of questions of public examinations such as HSC and SSC, medical
admission test etc. as previous administration failed to stop the leaks of question papers;
escalating worry among examinee, parents and teachers alike. But after taking charge of the
education ministry she identified this specific weakness in the education system early on and
took appropriate treatment to overcome this weakness. By applying pragmatic leadership in the
education sector Dr Dipu Moni gave enormous efforts to save our education sector from the
greedy outside forces such as coaching centers, guide publicists.
Dipu Moni recognized the lack of technical and vocational education as primary causes of the
rising of unemployed graduate in Bangladesh and took initiatives to make vocational education
compulsory from next year.

This year during the corona virus pandemic, Dipu Moni took steps to close all educational
institutions to prevent the spread of the virus among our children. She is working on identifying
what improvements should be made to the education system during the pandemic and after it is
over. Since offline education would be risky among the corona virus situation, she took certain
admirable steps to provide online education to our students until the situation is resolved.

These smart initiatives taken during a national crisis has made Dipu Moni such an exceptional
pragmatic leader in our country.
Transformational Leaders

Transformational leadership is an approach to leadership that depends on inspiring and

influencing employees to contribute in shaping a flourishing future for a business or an
institution. These leaders are usually vigorous, passionate, and inspirational. Not only are these
leaders concerned and involved in the process; they are also focused on helping every member of
the group succeed as well.

Transformational leaders persuade and encourage their followers without micromanaging —

they believe that the authority over decisions in their allocated tasks should be taken by the
trained workforce. This leadership style motivates employees to be more creative, visionary and
discover new solutions to specific situations. Transformational leader is more than a charismatic
leader in which they enable the employees the ability to question not only the established views
but also those established by the leader himself..

In Bangladesh several transformational leaders contributed to the social and economic

development of the country. Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Ayman Sadiq are among those two
leaders.

Dr Muhammad Yunus

Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, a social entrepreneur and civil society leader is best recognized
for establishing the Grameen Bank and spearheading the notions of microcredit and microfinance
in our country especially in rural areas. As a visionary, his leadership approach is parallel to that
of a transformational leader.

Muhammad Yunus has consistently sought to discover various means to remove poverty and aid
the poor and impoverished which makes him a selfless leader. He started providing small loans
in 1976, from his own money, to poor rural women who was not eligible for traditional bank
loans, constructing what has become acknowledged as microcredit or microfinance. His works
led to the foundation of the Grameen Bank in 1983. The Grameen Bank was able to aid the poor
immensely, especially women. His concept became popular in other poor and impoverished
countries and went on to help the deprived people of those countires.
Muhammad Yunus has had an obvious vision of what the world should be and therefore grew
leadership characteristics quite early on in life. He began with a vision and reached at a sufficient
realistic solution through his audacity, dedication, and full confidence in what he was attempting
to accomplish. These characteristics can be observed in Muhammad Yunus. He had a visionary
outlook, great passion and ingenuity, and a loathing for bureaucracies and formalities.

Yunus’ visionary approach of leadership is also apparent through the way new employees of The
Grameen Bank are chosen and trained. Yunus believed that in order to be able to comprehend the
principles of what the Grameen Bank stands for, the employee must come from a
underprivileged surroundings.
