GROW ON YOUR OWN

(Trusting the Process)

( NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM )

Planting is not just a practical type of lifestyle but also a natural stress reliever.
Growing your own plant can give you a great sense of effort and accomplishment. It can
boost your creativity and productivity at home especially during this pandemic. Planting
at home is very beneficial and contributory to the environment because it absorbs harmful
toxins and produce fresh air for your family. It is pleasant to the atmosphere since
pollution is present not just outside but also inside the home. The other benefit of planting
at home specifically fruits and vegetables are ways of being organic and resourcefulness.
Instead of buying on markets and grocery stores, you can save money since the
vegetables that you plant at home are just the same as the veggies that you will buy in the
market.
It was February when we are tasked to plant a fruit or vegetable at home for our
National Service Training Program, I decided to plant a bell pepper since it is one of our
‘holy grail’ in our kitchen especially when my grandmother is cooking for our family.
She actually helped me in planting my bell pepper since she owns many plants in our
garden like oregano, aloe vera, pandan, siling labuyo and different organic plants and
flowers.
FINDING A GOOD LOCATION

I decided to put my plant together with my grandmother’s plants where the

sunlight and comfortable air is present. It is placed outside our door because it has a
perfect spot and also pleasing to the eyes seeing different plants growing together.

PREPARING THE SEEDS

There are bell peppers in our refrigerator since we often use it in cooking. I cut it
in half and get enough amount of seeds for my plant and put it in my pot with soil.
PREPARING THE TRAY/POT WITH A SOIL and PLANTING

To save money, there are unused pots in our stock room and excess soil in our
other plants that I decided to use for my bell pepper plant. I also put some fertilizer for its
faster and healthier growth.

WATERING IT DAILY

Every morning, this is the very first thing that I am doing when I woke up. Since
the sunlight is healthy every morning, it is also the best time to water your plant. I am
watering it regularly.
PATIENCE (everything takes time)

This is my bell pepper plant way back on its first and second month. Since there is
a pandemic, I had a lot of time focusing and taking care of my plant yet I am honestly
worried because it is growing slowly.

MAINTENANCE and PRESERVATION

It is now on its third month and it is starting to grow and bear. From a seed, it has
now plenty of leaves and starting to bear it fruits.
It was actually my first time planting a vegetable and actually take care of it and I
can say that I am actually enjoying it. Sometimes, it seems so slow to grow a plant but
when you start to see it growing, there is a satisfaction within you that will make you
want to pursue more on taking care of it. It is very satisfying seeing small seeds growing
into a good product and actually knowing that it actually helps the environment even in a
simple way. One of the best things about planting is that we learn from it. There is always
something new coming along and all you have to do is to trust the process. Like plants,
humans are also trying to find light but some do not necessarily planted in the right place
and their goal is not only to survive but also to bloom. Bloom where you were planted.
