The journal II

In this Reading Course, I have been able to learn so many techniques taught by the
teacher. Some of these reading strategies are summarizing a writer’s point of view,
labeling details on a map, recognizing metaphors, understanding transitions,
understanding pros and cons, using a Venn diagram to classify information. These have
helped me to learn and has led me to understand and carry out the actor’s point of view,
what he wants to infer, how to mark and understand the different types of maps in the
readings and that it means everything, recognize the metaphors in the texts, and what
are the appropriate ways to use them, learned to use the transitory words we need, to
make the text more interesting and coherent, understanding all the pros and cons of a
text or the specific topic we are talking about which is quite important and use the Venn
diagram to classify the information, give it value of importance and have that
percentage of importance or quantity.

Understanding pros and cons.

The pros and cons of something are its advantages and disadvantages, which you
consider carefully so that you can make a sensible decision. People sit for hours
debating the pros and cons of setting up their own firm. Chiefly in pros and
cons reasons or arguments for and against something, advantages, and disadvantages.
The phrase 'pros and cons' is an abbreviation of the Latin phrase pro et contra, 'for and
against', where “pros” are for the plus points and “cons” are the negative ones
The pros and cons are a super necessary resource and we need to understand them,
when we are analyzing texts for many reasons for example to summarize, extract
important information or analyze these. As we need to know which things the author is
against or in favor of, and the reason of this situation. We have to be critical because we
need to know when something is wrong or is in favor of health or any measure that is
necessary for example in the environment or in any field and to know to identify if it is
in favor or against it both the society and the author for own conviction or own interests.
In my opinion, this strategy or skill is very important as it helps us how to interpret and
understand the pros and cons that contain a text. This has been very helpful for subjects
that I carry in this quarter as anthropology, Philosophies and sociology, which have a lot
of controversial issues, so to call them, that you have a lot of points of view depending
on who writes it or socializes it, they change a lot, and we have to interpret that it’s for
and against. And what makes this process more satisfying and enjoyable is that you can
separate the ideas into 2 columns one that encompasses the pros and another that
encompasses the cons compare them and bring out the main ideas.

Using a Venn diagram to classify information.

Venn diagram is a diagram that shows all possible logical relations between a finite
collection of different sets. These diagrams depict elements as points in the plane and
sets as regions inside closed curves. A Venn diagram consists of multiple overlapping
closed curves, usually circles, each representing a set. This lends to easily read
visualizations.
In my opinion Venn diagrams are important because they allow us to aggregate
common features of different sectors which are important because they facilitate our
work for example are used in features such as in languages, group of animals, ethnic
groups and especially in mathematical operations, I’ve actually seen them since school
is not something new in my life but I learned to develop them in other areas because we
only used it in school with mathematics and in that I have extended my field of
knowledge.
To finish, these skills have helped me to achieve a more complete work, both for its
delivery and for my understanding, being used in different subjects which are necessary
for their long content and difficult understanding, so these types of skills have been
necessary and of great help in order to have as final result a comfortable writing of any
type of informative text. I intend to continue to carry out these skills on a continuous
basis, as it is very easy for me and I get better results from it, using it in different
subjects with the need to achieve the understanding of certain information.
