The level of rivalry in higher education in region 3 is determined by the competition's object:
students, faculty, donors, or government funding and research money. Existing competitor rivalry can
take numerous forms, including price cuts, new product introductions, ad campaigns, and service
enhancements. According to my research, Region 3 has 12 public universities and 191 privately funded
institutions with degree-granting authority including Holy Angel University (mostly with religious
affiliations). The more similar the universities are in one region, the more competitive they are. One
institution may seek to set itself apart from the competition by providing specializations that are not
available elsewhere.
Technology has a significant impact on rivalry intensity, and Holy Angel University institutions
who have invested in modern technology for teaching or research have improved their competitive
standing. HAU is one of only three higher education institutions in the Philippines to have received PQA
Level 2 recognition for quality management proficiency. In 2016, HAU was the sole recipient of the
Philippine Quality Award (PQA), the country's highest recognition for quality and organizational
excellence. To provide accessible quality education that transforms students into leaders. Having a
competitive advantage over other (competing) organizations, on the other hand, brings with it sufficient
student enrolment, which in turn generates state funding and tuition fee income, which is required for
further development.
