ABSTRACT

Animal Cruelty cases make headlines around the world
every day, whether it’s the person who kills the
neighbour’s cat, the hoarder of sick and dying animals
or the family whose freezing, starving dog is tied up
outside in the middle of the winter. Animal Cruelty has
several types which may be one of Simple Neglect,
Gross Neglect, Intentional Abuse, Animal Hoarding,
Organized Abuse, Ritualistic Abuse or Animal Sexual
Assault. These cases of Cruelty cannot be overlooked as
it has proven to have severe implications ranging from
the fact that it is linked to other crimes, to the factual
truth that these practises inflict great pain on these
animals that have nobody to speak for them.
Combating this menace of Animal Cruelty is a Journey
that must be undertaken and everybody including the
Government, NGOs and even Culture has a major role
to play in this.

CHAPTER: 1
INTRODUCTION
In a spine-chilling incident, a pregnant elephant, who was fed
pineapple stuffed with firecrackers in Kerala’s Mallapuram,
succumbed to death post the injuries that caused due to the
explosion of those ‘firecrackers’ in her lower jaw of mouth.
The incident has led to a mass outrage in people at large.
This is an example of extreme cruelty and a callous attitude,
which is shocking to say the least.
The fruit exploded in elephant’s mouth, causing severe burn
injuries because of which elephant was unable to eat.
Pregnant elephant’s traumatic death was caused by
starvation.
She suffered for days, and yet amazingly, was compassionate
enough not to trample through the village or destroy our
fields in anger and pain. Pregnant elephant’s last hours were
spent

standing in the river, her trunk and wounded mouth
submerged in water.
Her death sparked a nationwide outrage. Thousands are
signing petitions, speaking out on social media and
empathising with the poor animal and unborn child.
The Chief Minister of Kerala has promised action. Celebrities,
industrialists, actors and sportspersons have all spoken out.
This is one instance of animal cruelty which is visually so
powerful that it has sparked chain reactions, bringing
awareness, causing discomfort, and raising questions about
our actions
(6)
AIM.
To spread awareness against animal cruelty.

OBJECTIVE
The sole objective of this research is to spread
awareness amongst people against the ongoing animal
cruelty in the society. And to instill the feeling of
sensitivity towards them so that no such heinous
incidents like this occur in future.

HYPOTHESIS
If proper 'environmental education' would be given to
these unaware localities, the cases could decrease in
numbers.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of the study includes the crisp information on
the killing, responses from the society, and actions from
the concerned authorities. The study also tags the
incident as a ‘blot’ on humanity

REPORT ANALYSIS

(Analysis of subject Animal abuse/Cruelty)

In a survey for “Animal abuse/Cruelty” , 40
individuals were asked several questions.This
analysis is based on their responses. I have explained
majority of the audience about the research in brief
beforehand prior to filling their answers to get better
output.
While preparing the report 20-25 age group
responded the most of all age groups. Largely
around 73.5% people said that they consumes food
that comes from animals and only 20.6 said they
don’t. On asking them that they know the process of
how meat is made almost 38.2 said they do and 35.3
said they don’t which signifies that large number of
individuals are not informed about the process.
Furthermore they were asked to on a scale of 1-5
what they think about how animals are treated on
farms, 65% of people said that animals are treated
inhumanly on farms.
(19)
Majority of people almost 79.4% people responded
that they would take immediate action it they see an
animal treated badly. This signifies that large
number are very

well read about the situation. On asking that if
releasing your anger on a animal is heinous or
helpful,97% of people think it is inhuman.
The last section of questions were based on the topic
“Animal Testing”. The first question was about how
much they know about animal testing, only about
50% of population know about the situation and
50% don’t. Further they asked if they use cruelty free
products 66.7% of them said sometimes and 24.2%
never. The last question was on opinion on testing if
it should be continued or stopped the responses
were blindsiding 60% said it should be stopped but
40% said to continue

• It can be concluded from the responses
that flabbergasting amount of people are
well informed about this topic. People
have given very positive thoughts and
responses on this crucial issue

CHAPTER : 5
CONCLUSION

RESULT OF THE STUDY
Animal abuse is a worrying trend that is occurring in
this contemporary society. We should immediately put
a halt to it so that lesser animals would be abused.
Also, from the survey conducted, we had found out that
people in today’s society do not treat animal abuse
lightly although a minority actually find that it is
alright. In this light of the conclusion, I recommend that
we should all do our part to show this minority why it is
morally wrong. If we do our part to help animal abuse,
hand-in-hand, we will surely succeed in doing this!

SUGGESTIONS
Since we knew that animal abuse is getting more
prevalent, here are some of the proposed solutions:
1) Make use of social media to spread awareness of
. animal abuse
2) Make use of print media (Flyers, Pamphlets, Posters)
3) Higher Penalties
4) Constant enforcement of animal abuse laws
