 Language facilitates communication as it

allows people to express themselves and somehow

bridges the gap among them.
 MATH as a language is precise as such that it is able to make very fine distinctions or
definitions among a set of mathematical symbols.
 A mathematician can express long expositions or sentences briefly using the language
of mathematics.
 There are 6, 500 languages in the world. In Philippines alone, there are 120 to 187 languages
spoken.

MATHEMATICAL LANGUAGE IS PRECISE

- This is one of the reasons why math is considered as an exact science.
There are many symbols in mathematics and there are 2 ways to understand its meaning.
 Know the context. Numbers and symbols have many uses so it’s very important to
know when to use them.
 Know mathematical convention.
COMMON MATHEMATICAL SYMBOLS
- Operators
- Common operators: + (plus) and – (minus)
- Variables
- A letter that represents an unknown number.
- These are used when quantities take different values.
- Greek Letters
- The Greek letter π is used to represent the number 3.14159….

numbers

MATHEMATICAL LANGUAGE IS CONCISE

- Being to say things briefly
- Being able to convert sentences into mathematical expressions correctly is one of the most
