New Dean at Leeds Metropolitan

Leeds Metropolitan University has appointed Professor Mohammad Dastbaz

as Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Environment and Technology.

Professor Dastbaz is currently at the University of East London where he is

Dean of School for Computing, information technology and engineering. He is
also a well published researcher.

Professor Dastbaz said: “I am very much looking forward to joining the team
at Leeds Met and to be able to contribute to a very exciting and forward
looking agenda in these challenging times for UK higher education.”

Professor Susan Price, Vice Chancellor of Leeds Metropolitan University,

said: “I am delighted that Professor Dastbaz will be joining us. We have a lot
to do in order to achieve our strategic plan in a fast changing environment.
Mohammad has a crucial role to play in leading the Faculty of Arts,
Environment and Technology, and helping our university succeed. He brings
a wealth of experience to the task and is very much looking forward to
meeting colleagues and working together to that end.”

He was previously Head of Information Systems and Multimedia at the

University of Greenwich and, prior to that, held a senior position at London
South Bank University.
Professor Dastbaz’s first degree was in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
He then went on to complete a PhD in the ‘Design, Development and
Evaluation of Multimedia Based Learning Systems’ at Kingston University. In
1989 he set up one of the UK’s first multimedia PC companies, ‘Systems
2000’.

He will join Leeds Met on 1 June.
