1. Contact tracing — the identification, listing, and follow-up of persons who may have come
into close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case. Contact tracing is an important component
in containing outbreaks of infectious diseases. Under Code Red Sublevel 2, contact tracing is
aimed at mitigating the spread of the disease. 
2. Close contact — a person who may have come into contact with the probable or confirmed
case two daysprior to onset of illness of the confirmed COVID-19 case (use date of sample
collection for asymptomatic cases as basis) until the time that said cases test negative on
laboratory confirmation or other approved laboratory test through
1. Face-to-face contact with a probable or confirmed case within 1 meter and for more
than 15 minutes;
  2. Direct physical contact with a probable or confirmed case;
3. Direct care for a patient with probable or confirmed COVID-19 disease without using
proper personal protective equipment; OR
  4. Other situations as indicated by local risk assessments.

3. Confirmed COVID-19 case — any individual who tested positive for COVID-19 through
laboratory confirmation at the national reference laboratory, sub national reference laboratory,
or a DOH-certified laboratory testing facility. 
5. Probable COVID-19 case — a suspect case who fulfills anyone of the following listed below: 
a. Suspect case whose testing for COVID-19 is inconclusive; or
b. Suspect who tested positive for COVID-19 but whose test was not conducted in a
national or sub national reference laboratory or officially accredited laboratory for
COVID-19 confirmatory testing 
c. Suspect case that died without undergoing any confirmatory testing 
6. Suspect COVID-19 case — a persons who is representing with any of the conditions below.
a. All SARI cases where NO other etiology fully explains the clinical presentation. 
b. ILI cases with any one of the following: 
i. with no other etiology that fully explains the clinical presentation AND a history of travel
to or residence in an area that reported local
i. transmission of COVID-19 disease during the 14 days prior to symptom onset OR
ii. with contact to a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 in the two days prior to onset
of illness of the probable/confirmed COVID-19 case became negative on repeat testing. 
a. Individuals with fever or cough or shortness of breath or other respiratory signs or
symptoms fulfilling any one of the following conditions:
i. Age 60 years and above 
ii. With a comorbidity
iii. Assessed as having a high-risk pregnancy 
iv. Health worker

1. Social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping a safe space
between yourself and other people who are not from your household.
To practice social or physical distancing, stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from
other people who are not from your household in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

2. Incubation period is the time elapsed between exposure to a pathogenic organism, a


chemical, or radiation, and when symptoms and signs are first apparent. In a typical
infectious disease, the incubation period signifies the period taken by the multiplying
organism to reach a threshold necessary to produce symptoms in the host.

3. For patients with severe and critical conditions requiring transfer from home to 
designated health facilities, the following is advised:

1. Contact the health facility by telephone or other recommended methods for clear
guidance.

2. If no ambulance is available, transport the patient in a private vehicle with all windows
open and give the patient a medical mask prior to leaving the home.

3. Wear a medical mask and perform proper hand hygiene during transport; observe the
proper etiquette for sneezing and coughing; avoid unnecessary contact with the vehicle.
4. Comply with local referral and transfer protocol.
