Simplify all your answers whenever possible and only use pencil.

1) Let u = 2i + kj and v = 4i + 3 j

a) Find the value of k so that u and v are orthogonal.

b) Find the value of k so that the angle between u and v is 3 .

c) Find the value of k so that the area of the parallelogram determined by u and v is 5 square units.
2) Find unit vectors perpendicular to the plane through the points A(0,0,0), B(2,0,1), and C(1,4,3).

3) Find the magnitude of the resultant force and the angle it makes with the positive x-axis.
4) Find the parametric equations for the line segment joining the points (1, 2, 3) and (4, 3, -1).

5) Find the vector equation for the line through (2,1,0) and perpendicular to both i + j and j + k .
6) Find an equation for the plane through the point (2,0,1) and perpendicular to the line x = 3t , y = 2 − t , z = 3 + 4t .

7) Find the equation of the plane that passes through the points (0, -2, 5) and (-1, 3, 1) and is perpendicular
to the plane 2 z = 5 x + 4 y .
8) Sketch the surface generated by y = x 2 + 4 z 2 . Include curve (traces) that show the intersection of all three
coordinate planes with the surface. Find the formula for the traces and label them as parabolas, ellipses, etc.

9) Find the value of k such that the angle between the vectors 2,1, −1 and 1, k ,0 is 45 degrees.
