AFRICA by David Diop

1. Describe Africans as depicted in the poem.

They have hard feeling on what africa is going 0on their economy and their selves. They want to leave
on what they have now poverty, hunger and slavery of others. They still have faith that by little by little
they grow.

2. Why are Africans looked down?

Because of being poor country, being less power and maybe because of the terrorist which some of their
assets thief by them. Because of their economy is hard to get up because of less investors.

3. In your own little way, how can you help ameliorate the sad plight of the Africans?

If have a opportunity to help them by what i can. share to them the knowledge what i have support
them emotionally. keeping them the faith to have a courage despite of poverty. We all have a power to
help not financially but help on what we can is a big pleasure to them and a big share to their dreams.

3. Explain the second stanza and its implications to our present society.
The second stanza compare to a man who said that being a kid is gone. And now they shake
hands like a police officer that their right hand is in your hands and their left hand is searching
on your pocket and dropping something to make arrested and they have evidence.

ANTICIPATION by Mabel Dove-Danquah Ghana

1. Describe the setting.


The story took place in the state park of the village decorated with palm leaves on the grounds. The
people are cheering and the state drums were beating paeans of joy. The second part of the story is
in the house of Nana Adaku II.

2. What atmosphere is created by this setting?


It created an joyful atmosphere because of the decorated palm leaves on the ground and the
people cheering. The state drums beating is make the atmosphere make more joyful.
3. What African ways customs and traits are revealed in the story?
 African men can many women as many as they want. African men must give a marriage dowry
to the woman they want to marry. Renewing friendships for those who had not seen one another
for a long time.
4. Compare the African ways of celebrating with those of the Filipinos.
We have similar celebration of happiness. Dancing, beating drums, the special clothes and the
lot of people. There still different the buying of your want to be wife. Maybe in Muslim religion
it is legal but being Filipino and a catholic man it was not right and it’s a big difference in Filipino
celebration
5. Characterize Nana Adaku II.
A king with a steel hands. He’s the man what he wants is what he gets. A man with a crazy
lifestyle, a king that we don’t want to have.
6. Comment on what the author says about the attitudes of men towards women and vice versa.
Author is have a very wide imagination. This story is very like in a true story of a man who has
the most wife in the world . the man with a steel hands and a women with a beautiful heart.
7. Did you expect the story to end the way it did? Why or why not?
Yes. Because of the king had a forty wives and he’s the king what he wants is what he get. The
girl cant say no because of the moneyofferd by the king for her and his family
8. Define “irony”. Give and example of it in the story.
Irony is being no fear being leader. In the story his irony is when he want the girl no one can
disagree on what he wants. He gets what he wants..
9. Explain the title of the story.
He’s a fifty five years old the anticipation title is came from having a new wife. It maybe
expected that every year of celebrating he have a new wife. Since he was 15 every year he
change wife that why he have a forty wives.
