1. APPLICATION
Indoor disconnectors type OW single-, double- and three-pole are designed for operation in indoor
switchgear for 12kV, 24kV and 36kV. They can be used for closing and opening de-energized circuits. In open position,
they make a safe visible isolating gap, complies with international standards.

2. ADVANTAGES

" Modular design (easy reconfiguration)

" Possibility to combine with rotary or linear movement operating device.
" Possibility to choose side of operating device
" Works with manual operating device type NR-1, NRK or motor operating device NSW-30
" Good technical and operation parameters
3. CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATING SECTION
OW disconnectors are single-, double- or three-pole switches with vertical movement of main circuit.
Disconnector base (pos.1) is made of welded steel frame with mounted main shaft and (in high current disconnectors
pos.3) transmission gear’s shaft. On the frame there are mounted epoxy resin insulators (pos.4). On them there is main
circuit consists of (on each pole) two fixed contacts screwed to insulators and moving contact (pos. 6). Moving contacts
are connected with main shaft with insulated rod (pos. 7). Rotary movement of the shaft is transmitted trough insulated
rods to moving contact which are moved vertically. In high current disconnectors - 2500A and 4000A - contact and
blades downforce is realised with special contact caps. In case of high earthing currents, due to magnetic effect on cap
(pos. 8) downforce is increased. This solution allowed to achieve high peak current and termal earthing current values.
Due to reduced distance (125mm for 12kV and 160mm for 24kV) insulating plated were used between adjacent poles.

Earthing switch connected to disconnector is designed as steel blades (pos.18 and 19) mounted on shaft
and finished with silvered copper rivets.
Manual operation of disconnector can be realized with hand operating device type NR-1/01, and earthing
switch can be operated with manually with operating device NR-1/02. Both disconnector and earthing switch can be
operated electrically (remote or local operation) with motor operating device NSW-30. Those devices are equipped with
interlocking systems to prevent disconnector closing while earthing switch is closed or closing earthing switch while
disconnector is closed.
Every disconnector is equipped with earthing terminal located on basis frame (pos.9).
If needed, our apparatuses can be equipped with auxiliary switch configured 3NO+3NC mounted directly
on shaft opposite to operation side or auxiliary switch LP-1 configured as 8NO+8NC. Auxiliary switch LP-1 is designed
to mount inside switchgear, and it’s connected with disconnector via coupling rod.

4. INSTALLATION
4.1. Unpacking and visual inspection

When the OW arrives, inspect the entire shipment for damage due to packing list and package condition.
Unpacking should be performed carefully avoiding impacts and tilts and refer to the warnings on package. After
unpacking it’s necessary to check if apparatus was not mechanically broken during transport and check nameplate
correspondence with documents.
All disconnectors are delivered mounted and regulated.

ATTENTION!
Never lift disconnector by grabbing insulators or main circuit parts.

Disconnecor should be moved only by grabbing the base.

4.2. Preparing support structure and mounting disconnector

Disconnectors type OW are designed to work in horizontal or vertical position with separable clamps at the
top. Support structure project should concern keeping proper insulation distance and structure itself shoul be rigid
enough. Disconnector base should be screwed in three points (with M12 screws) and then if necessary - insert distance
gasket to align support surface. All contact points between disconnector frame and support structure should lie in single
plane.

4.3. Motor and hand operating drives installation and coupling with disconnector

Motor operating mechanism type NSW-30 and hand operating type NR-1 should be mounted to the front
wall of switchgear with 2 allen M10 screws when drive’s shaft axis should be in axis of small gear wheel.
Before coupling operating mechanism with disconnector it’s necessary to check approximately drive rod
length (pos. 11) to insert rod in small gear wheel (pos. 15) on one side, and the other side - in drive clamp. The rod side
with hole in it should be inserted in gear wheel and secured with bolt (pos. 31). Small gear’s hub with bolt should be

4.4. Connecting inlet wires and earthing wire

Before connecting busbars it’s necessary to clean disconnector terminals using method that doesn’t
cause silver coating damage, and then oil terminal and busbar surface with conducting grease. Screws (pos. 10) should
be screwed carefully with torque 62Nm holding terminal to avoid it’s torsion on insulator and formation of stress. In order
to prevent incorrect work of disconnector.
Earthing wire should be connected with screw (pos. 9, torque 54Nm) located in earthing terminal on base
frame. Terminal should be oiled with acid-free vaseline.

5. TEST BEFORE PUTTING INTO SERVICE

ATTENTION!
Before the disconnector is test operated, it should be checked that apparatuses were mounted
properly, carry out usual check of disconnector and make sure that installation location
guarantees safe work. In particular user should check insulators, terminals and screw
connections.

This requirement is especially important when transporting switchgears with disconnectors to

operation location.

Not performing those checks can cause serious damage of switchgears and distribution
stations. In case of problems, all regulations should be performed by producent
representative.

Before turning voltage it’s necessary to do all electrical checks and measurements in as described in user
manuals about putting electrical devices into service. All needed values of measured parameters are provided in
technical data of disconnector.

6. OPERATION MANUAL
All persons operating disconnectors should be well qualified and experience in high voltage equipment.
Any person involved with the operation of this equipment should be familiar with the following danger, warning and
caution notices. When operating disconnector or it’s earthing switch (if installed) all safety and health regulations should
be obeyed. Restrict personnel that:
! disconnector can be closed only if earthing switch is opened.
! earthing switch can be closed only if disconnector is opened and earthed circuit isn’t under voltage.
Before operation (open or close) with disconnector or earthing switch one should ensure if operation is
allowed according to restrictions above and entire circuit conditions. Every time disconnector is operated it’s necessary
to check disconnector condition, especially it’s border positions and contamination on insulators and rods and drive’s
and terminals condition.
In case of any faults which can cause disconnector damage or safety hazards, it’s necessary to
immediately turn off voltage of disconnector and eliminate all faults.

10. REGULATION OF TRANSMISSION SHAFT WITH GEARS

Transmission shaft with gears mounted in high current disconnectors holds main circuit blades in close
position. It prevents their opening in case of dynamic short circuit currents.
High current disconnectors type OW are delivered in regulated state.
In case disconnector doesn’t close completely - blades (pos. 6) don’t adjoin to fixed contacts with
maximum surface, contact strip rivets (pos. 30) are not coaxial with lock screws (pos. 29) and transmission drive hits
fender bracket (pos. 28) - it’s necessary to shorten link with loosing nuts (pos. 14) and turn the turnbuckle (pos. 13)
clockwise few times. Distance between link’s holes should be around 137mm. After adjusting link, it should be secured
with nuts. In case disconnector closes but link doesn’t go through dead point and doesn’t reach fender bucket - it’s
necessary to lengthen link as above but moving turnbuckle counter-clockwise.
