LNG 113 – News Report Analysis.
Bias is defined as prejudice in favour of or against one thing, a person or group compared with

another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. It is noticeable that in today’s news and

articles, bias can be found easily and in different level. Considering the CNN’s piece of news on

President Trump’s metal wellness, it is manifest that the author tries to persuade reader to have a

concern against the well-being of the 45th President of the United States in terms of metal

sickness.

Starting with title of the article, “Doctors want President Trump’s head examined” is suggesting

a factual statement that there is something wrong going on with Mr. President’s wellness. Instead

of keeping the subject of the article as a single doctor or any specific one, the writer puts it in a

plural form. This directly implies that this is a conclusion and the wants of many physicians

across the States concerning the 45th President metal wellness. On top of that, including the

doctors in the title makes this more of a scientific statement than a simple and clueless

assumption stated by any random Trump’s protestor. Thus, it becomes more believable to the

readers, persuading them to follow the writer’s point of view.

When it comes to sources used in the news, the author also chooses a bigger number of opposing

than supporting facts considering the President’s state of well-being. Providing the conclusion

made by Dr. Ronny Jackson – White House physician that President Donald Trump is “in

excellent health” without any outstanding proof of a metal health being conducted was not an

absolute favourable fact supporting the President’s well-being. However, quoting words from the

letter by dozens of doctors and health professionals along with citation from people close to the

President against his state of being mentally normal has triggered the question on the truth

behind the wellness of Mr.President. Due to the fact that there are a lot of people with high if not

absolute (100%) agreement on his “increasing concern” and their level of proficiency and
closeness to him, the article becomes more and more evidently one-sided. Also, Mr. Trump’s

self-opinionated assessment on his very own metal stability as a “very stable genius” has also

been included in the article suggests his weak argument with no clear evidence against his

protestors.

Lastly, the author’s use of language when writing on the article is also a factor contains bias

against President Trump. A lot of extreme and negative words and phrases have been employed

against Trump’s well-being such as “increasing concern”, “struggling with some mental health

challenges”, “dementia”, “incapable of carrying out the duties”, etc. Also, the fact that the

doctors “urge” to get Trump examined is repeated with different types of paraphrasing including

saying that it is “a must”, “is essential”, etc raises the serious level of his illness. By putting in

these factors, the writer wants to emphasize on the fact the Trump is not fit to run the White

House and need specific treatment for his state of health.

Overall, with various techniques whether it is using the title, citing different sources or the use of

language, it is clear that this article is not in favour of the 45th President of the United States of

America.
