Q.

N 2
In a deck of 52 cards, a card is drawn at random. What is the probability that
the card is black or king? (3 marks)
Ans:
Given,
Total no. of possible case n(S) = 52
Let, E1 be the favorable case of getting black card and E2 be the favorable case of
getting King card. E3 be the favorable case for getting kings of black cards. Then,
Total no. of favorable case for black is n(E1) = 26
Total no. of favorable case for king is n(E2) = 4
Total no. of favorable case of king of black card (E3) = 2
Now, Since this non- mutually exclusive event ;
n ( E1 ) n ( E 2 ) n ( E 3 )
Probability of getting Black or King card is P(E1U E2)= + −
n (S ) n( S ) n (S )
26 4 2
= 52 + 52 − 52
28
= 52
7
= 13
7
Hence , the probability of getting black or King card is 13 .

a. If the consistency of performance is the criteria for awarding a prize. Who
should be awarded by the prize? (5 marks)
b. Who is better? (3 marks)
c. Who is more intelligent? (3 marks)
Ans:
First arranging marks secured by A and B in ascending order.

C.V = S.D/Mean * 100%

Since the coefficient of variance (C.V ) of Mr.A is way less than Mr.B .So, Mr.A
should be awarded with the prize.

b) Ans:
Mean of Mr.A = 30.7
Mean of Mr.B = 30.2
Since mean of Mr.A is greater than mean of Mr.A is better than Mr.B.

c) Ans:
For Mr.A:
Median = ( N2+1 )th term
10+1
=( 2 )th term
= 5.5th term
Since there are two values Median = (30+31)/2
=30.5
For Mr.B:
Median = ( N2+1 )th term
10+1
=( 2 )th term
= 5.5th term
Since there are two values Median = (28+30)/2
=29
Hence, Median of the Mr.A is higher than Mr.B. Mr.A is more intelligent than
Mr.B.

Q.N. 4
The following table shows the survey results regarding the purchase behavior
of HDTV’s and DVD players in the last six months of 300 house hold.
Purchased Force TV Purchase DVD
Yes No total
Force TV 38 42 80
Not Force TV 70 150 220
Total 108 192 300

a. What is the probability that purchased a TV set which is Force TV?

(2 marks)
b. Find the probability that a randomly selected household that purchased a
force TV and DVD player? (2 marks)
c. What is the probability that they purchased Force TV or DVD players?
(2 marks)
d. What is the probability that a house hold purchased a DVD player when it
is given that household purchased Force TV? (2 marks)
Ans:
Solu.
Let, F and D be the events of Force TV and DVD player respectively.
Given , total no. of Sample space is n(S)= 300
a)Ans;
probability that purchased a TV set which is Force TV=P(F)=?
No. of favorable case n(F) = 80
P(F)= n(F)/n(s)
= 80/300
= 4/15

b)Ans:
Probability that a randomly selected household that purchased a force TV and
DVD player= P(F∩D)=?
No. of favorable case n(F∩D) = 38
P(F∩D)=38/300

c)Ans:
Probability that they purchased Force TV or DVD players =P(For D)=?
P(For D) = P(F)+P(D)-P(F∩D)
= 80/300+108/300-38/300
=150/300
=1/2

d)Ans:
The probability that a house hold purchased a DVD player when it is given that
household purchased Force TV= P(D/F)=?
(D/F)=P(F∩D)/P(F)
38/300
= 80 /300
=38/80

Q.N.5
According to the data from American Medical Association 15 % of US are
left-handed. (3 marks)
a) If 4 people are randomly selected
i. What is the probability that they are all left- handed?
ii. What is the probability that at least one of them is left-handed?
b) If groups of 50 people are randomly selected
i. What is the mean number of left-handed people in such group?
ii. What is the standard deviation for the numbers of left-handed people in
such groups?
Ans:
Given ,
The probability of being left-handed P(L) = 15/100
=0.15
No. of trails (n) = 4
q = 1-p
=1-0.15
=0.85

a)Ans:
i)
No. of trails (n) = 4
probability that they all are left handed is P(X=4) = n C r∗pr∗q n−r
= 4C 4∗0.154∗0.854 −4
=1*0.0005*1
= 0.0005
ii)
the probability that at least one of them is left-handed is P(X>=1)= 1-P(X<0)
=1 – (4C 0∗0.150∗0.854 −0)
= 1 – (1* 1* 0.522)
=0.478
b)Ans:
no. of trails (n) = 50
i)
mean = n*p
= 50*0.15
=7.5
Variance = n*p*q
= 50*0.15*0.85
= 6.375

ii)
Standard deviation (S.D) = √ n∗p∗q
=√ 6.375
= 2.524

Q.N.6
The quality control manager of certain company is inspecting batch of
chocolate chip cookies that have just been baked. If the production process is
in control, the average number of chip parts per cookies is 6. What is the
probability that in any particular cookies being inspected, (2 marks)
a. At most three chip parts will be found?
b. None of the chip parts will be found?
Ans:
Given,
Mean ( λ ) = 6
According to POISSON Distribution;
a)Ans:
P(X <= 3) =P(X=3)+P(X=2)+P(X=1)+P(X=0)
ⅇ−6 ⋅6 3 ⅇ−6 ⋅6 2 ⅇ−6 ⋅6 1 ⅇ−6 ⋅ 60
= + + +
3! 2! 1! 0!
=0.089+0.045+0.015+0.0024
= 0.15
b)Ans:
ⅇ−6 ⋅6 0
P(X=0) =
0!
= 0.0024
Therefore, the probability of getting at most three chip parts is 0.15 where as the
probability of getting none of the chip part is 0.0024.
