1. What verbal expressions did the presenter use to start the presentation?
Dr. Veronica Toppin stated "at this time I will begin my presentation".

2. Did the presenter give any background to explain the purpose of the talk?
Yes, the presenter stated that she chose the topic because recently with the Covid 19 pandemic, she
has been hearing a lot of people talk about epidemiology and speak about it as if it only concerned
infectious diseases and more specifically, Covid 19. She also wanted to inform and enlighten
people that although Covid 19 was the first pandemic we had in over 100 years, there have been
other pandemics throughout the history of the world and we have been able to recover from them.

3. How was the presentation organized (e.g. into different parts)?


The whole presentation flowed exceptionally well. The presenter started off with the origin and
definition of her topic, then went on to the objectives and the different branches of epidemiology
along with giving examples. Finally she ended with a conclusion.

4. What verbal expressions did the presenter use to signal the move to another part of the
presentation?
The presenter would either say 'so' or 'ok' before she proceeded to another slide.

5. What visual aids did the presenter use (e.g. images, graphs, tables, maps)?
The presenter used images.

6. How effectively did the presenter use the visual aids?


The presenter used pictures to get her point across. She also used the images as examples which
were related to her topic.
7. What verbal expressions did the speaker use to lead into the conclusion of the presentation?
The speaker stated "to sum up what an epidemiologist does..." to lead into the conclusion of the
presentation.

8. What did the presenter do in conclusion? (Summarise? Review? Making recommendations?)


The presenter left a take home message which included facts, recommendations and tips that the
audience should follow.

9. What verbal expressions did the presenter use to end the presentation?
To end the presentation, Dr. Toppin said "thank you very much for listening today".

10. Did the presenter receive any questions at the end of the session from the audience? If so, how
were the responses by the presenter to the questions?
Yes, the presenter did receive questions. She was very confident with her answers. One of the
questions that was asked was to explain a method and I felt that the presenter explained that method
very thoroughly.
