PROBLEMS:
1. For the curve with the equation 𝑦 = 𝑥 2 − 5𝑥 + 6,
a. (5 pts) Sketch the graph, and find its domain and range.
b. (10 pts) Using difference quotient formula, find its slope at 𝑥 = 1.
c. (10 pts) Find the equation of its tangent and normal lines at 𝑥 = 1.

2. A ball thrown straight up is located s feet above the ground at t seconds after it is thrown in
accordance with the formula 𝑠 = 112𝑡 − 16𝑡 2 . Find:
a. (5 pts) the time required to reach its highest point;
b. (5 pts) the distance of the highest point above the ground; and
c. (5 pts) the acceleration of the ball at this point.

3. (10 pts each) Find the derivative of the following functions:

a. 𝑓(𝑥) = √1 + √𝑥 + 1
b. 𝑦 = tan √𝑥 2 − 1
c. 𝑦 = (𝑥 + 1)√2𝑥 − 1
1+sin 𝑥
d. 𝑓(𝑥) = 1−cos 𝑥
