Written Assignment Unit 2: Description of Four Behaviors Factors

The description of the four behavioral factors is Job performance, Organizational citizenship,

Absenteeism, and Turnover.

1.) Job performance: refers to the overall expected value from employees’ behaviors carryout

over the course of a set period of time (Motowidlo Borman, & Schmisdt,1997). The performance

of employee can help an organization to grow through quality performance and overall success.

Institute’’ The Cary, North Carolina, company is doing extremely well by any measure. They

have over 10,000 employees worldwide, operate in over 100 countries, ranked number 1 on

fortune’s 2010 list of the “Best Companies to Work For,’’ and reported $2.31 Billion in revenue

in 2009(their 33rd list consecutive year of growth and profitability). They reinvested 23% of their

2009 revenue into (R&D) activities. The company is quick to attribute their success to the

performance and loyalty of their workforce. This is directly correlated to how they treat their

employees. Poor performance from employees can result in running down an organization. To

manage job performance, organization should have good policies that enable employees to

perform their jobs. The example can be seen from the mini-case text, explains how SAS has

perfected the art of employee management by how they treat their workers (Carpenter, Bauer,

Erdogan.2012).

2.) Organization Citizenship Behaviors (OCB) refer to the level to which employees are

prepared to go above and beyond the behaviors and tasks that are designated by their role for the

good of the organization and the people within it.

They are three key aspect of organizational citizenship behaviors.

1.The discretionary voluntary behaviors, are people who help out of personal choice.

2. They are behaviors which goes above and beyond their job description.

3. That positive behavior and effectiveness that contribute to increase of the ambience of the

organization.

Organizational citizenship behaviors Increases organizational performance, Increases lower

turnover, lower level of counter productiveness, higher levels of productivity. This behavior

agrees with organizational policies provided the outcome is positive. (OR Briefings-Oxcogntia

3.) Absenteeism Behaviors refers to the unscheduled absence from work. Absenteeism

behaviors have more than one factors that affects an organization and employee. The work/life

balance is one of the major common reason for work absences. Poor human resource time

management

will result in employee’s unscheduled request to be absent from work for legitimate reason like

sick leaves and family emergencies (In-text cite) by Colins, M (12 Nov.2007). The examples of

how to manage work/life balance is explain in mini-case text section 2.1 by (Carpenter, Bauer,

Erdogan 2009) how the SAS institute understand the need for employee to have a life and

encourages to work reasonable hours and then go home to their families. The war on hooky

4.) Turnover: refers to employee leaving an organization. Employee work behaviors factors,

like job performance, unscheduled absences from work, poor working relationship with

colleagues can have harmful consequences on an organization’s turnover. Basically, work

attitude are primary reasons why employees leave their jobs, either due to poor job satisfaction
