Theory and concepts are what shapes the practice and give us the tools to continue to change and

advance in the endless changing healthcare systems. The theory is a variety of concepts uniquely and
innovatively that describes their relationships to create something extensive. It helps describe how
concepts interact together to explain something occurring that has yet to be defined (Mintz, 2019). I
think the theory is important for nurse practitioner practice because helps them think about
explanations, descriptions, and predictions. In addition to using the reasoning and formulated question
using evidence-based practice. The theory emphasized the basis, or framework, of the nursing
profession and helps to identify the unique qualities (Butts & Rich, 2018).

Theory as nurse practitioners helps us identify new ways of practice, nursing processes, criteria for
standards of practice, and shows us the way to improve patient outcomes and provide high-quality care.
Nursing policies and procedures are based on nursing theories and applied to practice. Behind every
research and conceptual model there is a nursing theory that formulates it and with evidence-based
practice are implemented in the healthcare system. I understand that theory is not the most exciting
part of education but is highly necessary to be successful in your future role. Nurse practitioner as part
of their role are involved in research and EBP, therefore, learning about theory and concepts provide
them with the essential knowledge required to practice. Going back to history Nightingale’s theorical
framework around the 1950 nurse scholar started borrowing theories form other disciplines to expand
the nursing practice and over the years now nurses conduct EBP and continue to improve the nursing
practice and patient care.
