level of influence on socialization

Basic manners
Being respectful at all times is one of many things that I’ve learned from older people around
me. As we’ve discussed on the last topic, simple gestures and basic manners like saying
“po” and “opo” to the elders as well as mano is considered as an act of respect towards the
elders and it is also what we’ve learned from the culture we live in.

Be Ambitious
Personally, my parents are very supportive of everything that I do. But of course there are
times that they're indirectly telling me to achieve more, to be more.

Being clever
My mother never fails to remind me every single day that I should always be practical in my
decisions. And also, being resourceful will take me to places someday so I chose to put this.

How to survive
Being independent is probably the most important thing that I learned from older
generations. It amazes me that even though life is not always smooth sailing, they are
surviving and not giving up.

Close Minded
This one is a negative trait that I knew about them. I noticed that some elders don't accept
the opinions of younger generations. They are not that open to the idea of learning from
people younger than them and always chose to believe what they want to believe. For
example is their crooked stand regarding Political stuff. But the most unreasonable is their
stereotypical opinions regarding Genders and refusing the fact that it has a wide variety and
not only Masculine or Feminine.

Self-Love
Investing in yourself is by far the most hardest to apply yet essential thing that I learned from
my peers. I also learned that you only have yourself at the end of the day so you really need
to be strong for you to survive in this world.

Political Awareness
Before, I was not that aware of anything, I didn’t know that there are people suffering and
that their rights are being trampled. But last year’s pandemic happened and suddenly, I
popped out of my privilege bubble and noticed how problematic our country is. I am glad that
my peers introduced me to a new world and lifted my mind through a higher level of
empathizing the people.
Genders
Actually, I know nothing abut genders before and I always though that my actions were right
but looking back, I did many homophobic actions. I learned that Gender has no limitations
and you can be whatever you want and you can express whatever you want to express. This
also thought to treat everyone equally and always open my mind.

Smart
This has something to do with doing fact checks on every single thing. It is because mass
media can be manipulated and might include false information. Because of my peers, I
learned to read and to research so that I can only receive true information.

Lift each other up

Even though Gen Zs are loud and wild, one positive thing that I learned is to always be
supportive. To clap for others and patiently wait for your time will take you to many places
and can bring satisfaction. Having a support system, especially emotional support is a great
feeling and I think that if we continue to support each other, the world will be more peaceful.

Patient
I personally have no patience and I get annoyed easily especially towards kids. But, after
having kids in our household taught me how to always be understanding and patient. It is
because as I was observing them, even though at most times they are stubborn, their
patience if they want something is admirable.

Open Minded
This fact might be a hard pill to swallow but this is true. Sometimes, you can learn more from
younger generations than older generations and your peers. Even at a young age, they
already know the right thing to do and to be understanding.

Be generous
It really makes me happy when kids are sharing their treats to me even though I do not ask
for it. I admit that sometimes I get greedy but after remembering their gestures, I should not
hesitate to be kind.

Dream
It amazes me when kids are talking about what they want to do in the future. I also realized
that having a dream is what makes you alive. It is because of the excitement you feel when
you think about achieving it. Actually, I forgot about my dream long ago because I thought
that I would not achieve it anyway but after seeing them having dreams and such, I get
inspired to not give up on my dreams.

Live your life to the fullest

I learned that being carefree is the best thing that you will experience in your youth. If you
hold back, you are closing all of the possibilities of you being happy. As the phrase says, you
should live your life with every ounce of happiness as possible because you only live once
so cherish it and make the most out of it.
