ASSIGNMENT: Free Vibration

Undamped Vibration

Undamped vibrations support their amplitude over the long run. Undamped vibration explains
vibration where vibrating energy of the object does not dissipate to surroundings. "Undamped" means
that there are no energy losses with movement.

Examples of undamped vibration

• One degree of freedom vibration

• Pendulum with one degree of freedom
• A basic door
• A refrigerator
• A swinging electric fan

Damped Vibration

Damped vibrations (oscillations) decline in adequacy (volume) after some time (regularly
because of a damping impact/power). Damped vibration tells that the vibrating object losses its energy
to its surroundings. ("Damped" implies that there are resistive powers and energy misfortunes with
development that cause the framework to quit moving in the long run.)

• Slim of branch tree is pulled and then released it makes damped vibrations.
• A tuning fork vibrating in air execute damped vibrations.
• Shock absorber in vehicles
• Carpet pads
• Vibrations on earth's surface in the absence of an external force
