“Unheeded Justice”

The increasing number of drug-related killings happening within the country has reach an
alarming level as it posts a series of threats and crimes against humanity, though it strengthen the war
against drugs, it will never defend the justice for everyone.
For the past years, the Philippines has been battered with complains from the citizens of the
country reporting the over-powered authorities who use their power to kill people related to drugs.
Since lives of many poor Filipinos are put to high risk because of this, the ruthless killings of these
authorities should be given a burst fault finding attention.
This is not a small thing anymore.
There is directly a high risk for citizens who are related to drugs, especially to the poor Filipinos.
Killing a suspect, on the other hands, basically leads to more injustice. Worse, it allows us to embrace
the culture of impunity wherein we let those people behind the killings go freely.
How alarming it could be when an innocent citizen is suspected to be the user of illegal drugs?
What is more awful than a poor citizens loudly crying for justice over being a victim of this killings but
can’t do anything to defend themselves?
It is quite intimidating to know that the summary executions of suspected criminals have
become such a cliché in the country that it has gotten a bearable state among some people. Yet, no one
has the right to take someone’s life just based on suspicions.
In as much as the police authorities maximize ways for war against drugs and prevention, over
forces of some members are still doing bastard things and making issue more badly. Some police even
became murderer as they kill those people kneeling down and begging for their lives. Police should not
be committing crime.
Who should be denounced as the offenders of the law? The authorities or the person said to be
related to drugs? Who should be accused as killers?
Yes, some people will might claim that the new administration made a systematic movement
to lessen the numbers of drug users which is more efficacious to create a safe place for the people. The
bad thing is that cases of killing incident violate the human rights. The concern here is the terrifying
incidents happening involving the members of the community even some of the leaders as perpetrators.
Who should be preventing them if the authorities are also making cruel things? Who should
act committed to their main intention to create a preventive environment?
As stated by the party-list Rep. Harry Roque, it is clear that the hundreds of Filipinos has been
attacked and killed. Human Rights defenders continue to be a target of death threats and some were
killed, many are abused. The cases mentioned therefore are clearly violating the human rights.
So, what can be said at this administration is that extra judicial killings created a noise, noise
that caused to awaken the people. The people cannot just be deaf. Extra judicial killing is not a small
thing. This is not just a thing to be unheard by the people. Everyone may take a stand to protect their
rights despite of the risk and threats because no one will do if we just let the power take over the law.
This then calls for authorities and officials to stop the nonstop killings and stop violating the
human rights. It is true that maintaining the community a safe place to live is the responsibility of the
citizens. The authorities should stick to their good intention to protect the people and not to kill and
shoot them right away. They are the one who supposed to be responsible to keep the country safe for
the citizens.
Now is the time to make a change and to take a stand against EJK. We are at the stage where we
already pass the old practices of using violence or smoking barrels of guns to take the justice. We should
remain hopeful that in time it would be able to uphold the law and serve the justice. The time has come
to take away the comeback of dictatorship, this time is not for the over powered government but for all
the people who are free to have the rights as a human being. EJK has to end up very soon.
This issue have not been resolved, leaving the people feeling unprotected, insecure, and fearful.
The solution lies on improving our justice system and admittedly this wouldn’t happen if the people will
just remain quiet and deaf.
