Interview guide (Methodology):

Quantitative measures of place attachment might not do justice to the richness of the
meanings entailed in a place (Patterson & Williams, 2005; Cresswell, 2007). As such, places
cannot be described by means of analytic concepts or measures, and instead, the meanings of
a place must be identified first in order to further perceive the rationale of place attachment
(Lewicka, 2011).

Thus, this research draws upon the interviewees’ own words of experiences, personal and
group memories, views, values, multi-sensory feelings about and/or being in their ancestral
home to explore how they foster and sustain such multi-layered connection (Mack et al., 2005;
Manzo, 2005).
