Competencies:
Describe the different levels of biological organization from cell to
biosphere (S7LT-IIc-3).
General Reminders: Use this activity sheet with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any
part of the activity sheet. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises. Read the
directions carefully before doing each task. Return this activity sheet to your teacher/facilitator
once you are through with it.
Knowledge about objects and organisms revealed by the microscope is of great value not
only to students but to everyone who wish to study and understand life. Knowing its parts as well
as proper manipulation and care will make your study of science effective, interesting and more
meaningful. Hence, it is important to know how to take care of this tool for an efficient and longer
use.
This lesson introduces you to the different structures that make up an organism. These
structures are formed from the grouping together of parts whose functions are related. We will also
learn that organs themselves are made up of even smaller parts.
What do you think will be the effect to the whole organism if anything happens to its small
parts?
The cell is the first level of the biological organization. It is the lowest level to have
a characteristics of life. It is the basic unit of life. The living substance inside the cell is a
jelly-like substance called protoplasm. Cells have different shapes and sizes because they
do different parts of the body. There are singled-cell organism like Cyanobacteria and
Spiral Bacteria. Multi-celled organisms are made up of many cells like fungi, plants and
animals.
