LEARNER’S ACTIVITY SHEET FOR QUARTER 2, WEEK __3__

NAME: GRADE LEVEL/SECTION:
SCHOOL: TEACHER: ___________________________________

Competencies:
Describe the different levels of biological organization from cell to
biosphere (S7LT-IIc-3).
General Reminders: Use this activity sheet with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any
part of the activity sheet. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises. Read the
directions carefully before doing each task. Return this activity sheet to your teacher/facilitator
once you are through with it.

Explore (Review and Motivation)

Knowledge about objects and organisms revealed by the microscope is of great value not
only to students but to everyone who wish to study and understand life. Knowing its parts as well
as proper manipulation and care will make your study of science effective, interesting and more
meaningful. Hence, it is important to know how to take care of this tool for an efficient and longer
use.
This lesson introduces you to the different structures that make up an organism. These
structures are formed from the grouping together of parts whose functions are related. We will also
learn that organs themselves are made up of even smaller parts.
 What do you think will be the effect to the whole organism if anything happens to its small
parts?

Learn (What is it/Discussion of the Topic)

The cell is the first level of the biological organization. It is the lowest level to have
a characteristics of life. It is the basic unit of life. The living substance inside the cell is a
jelly-like substance called protoplasm. Cells have different shapes and sizes because they
do different parts of the body. There are singled-cell organism like Cyanobacteria and
Spiral Bacteria. Multi-celled organisms are made up of many cells like fungi, plants and
animals.

Cell come together to do certain functions. We call this association as tissue.
Tissue is a group of associated, similarly structured cells that perform specialized
functions for the survival of organism. Neurons or nerve cells from nervous tissue; muscle
cells forms muscular tissue; blood cells from vascular tissue; fat cells form adipose
tissue;etc.
What becomes of tissues? They form organs. Let us take the heart as an example.
Your heart is also as big as your fist. It is located at the midsection of your upper body
and is oriented towards the left side of your body. The tissues that make up the heart are
cardiac tissue, nervous tissue, epithelial tissue, adipose tissue and connective tissue.
These tissues enable the heart to do its job—to pump blood to the different parts of your
body.
Organs work together with other organs to form an organ system. The heart works
with the blood vessels—arteries, veins, capillaries, to form the circulatory systems. It is
not only the humans that possess the circulatory system but also other multi-celled
animals such as frogs, horses, and pigs.
Different organ systems form organism. Like us, these plants and animals are also
organisms. They have basic needs that include proper care for them. Biological
organization does not end in just the individual. There are biological organizations beyond
you as an individual. The first organization outside the individual is population. A
population is composed of all organisms of one type occupying a particular area. Example
of this, a herd of carabaos domesticated in a particular area in our country.
You are familiar with different kinds of grasses. The area occupied dominantly by
grasses is called a grassland. In the grassland, you will find other plants and animals.
The population of various plants including grasses and animals in the grassland make up
a community. A community is an assemblage of many populations occupying a given
area at a given time interval.
The human population occupying the area is engaged in agriculture. The
populations interact among themselves and with the physical environment such as soil,
water, atmosphere, etc. to form an ecosystem. An ecosystem is a relatively self-contained,
dynamic system composed of a natural community along with its physical environment.
Ecosystem may be small or big, natural or artificial. Examples of natural ecosystems are
rivers, lakes, or oceans. Terrarium and aquarium are examples of artificial ecosystem. The
biggest ecosystem is the entire biosphere.

Engage (What I Learned/Generalizations)
Organisms are made up of parts: organ systems, organs, tissues, and cells.
Whatever happens to any of these parts will affect the other parts and the whole
organism. We need to keep our cells and tissues healthy to make our organs, organ
systems, and the whole body healthy. Biological organization does not end in just the
individual. There are biological organizations beyond you as an individual. The first
organization outside the individual is population. In turn, the population of various plants
including grasses and animals in the grassland make up a community. A community is
an assemblage of many populations occupying a given area at a given time interval. The
populations interact among themselves and with the physical environment such as soil,
water, atmosphere, etc. to form an ecosystem. The biggest ecosystem is the entire
biosphere.
