Semanting Bay Residents Are Happy with

Solar Energy Fulfilling Electricity Needs

PLTS in Teluk Semanting Village, East Kalimantan

Nationalgeographic.co.id— Power Generation Solar (PLTS) illuminates the

whole Village Semanting Bay, East Kalimantan. Development PLTS started in
October 2010. Then it started operating in early January 2018 and continues
to function until now.

PLTS has a capacity of 35 kWp for 85 home lines. An electric power meter is
sent to each house and each house is installed with a kwh meter. For 24
hours, one house gets 700 watts per day.

"So we install a kWh meter in every house, an electric power meter that is
sent to residents' homes. We distribute 700 watts per 24 hours. Every 6 pm,
700 thousand pulses are entered," said Fathur Rizal, a resident and

Utilization of electricity solar very dependent on the consumer. Residents

must regulate the use of electricity. Like turning off the lights during the day so
that 700 watts of power can be saved at night.

Rizal is also alert when there are complaints from residents when there are
electrical technical problems in their homes. For 24 hours always ready when
needed.

Development PLTS is the result of a citizen's proposal to the Provincial Office.

Before there PLTS Village Semanting Bay uses a Diesel Power Plant (PLTD)
with a duration of electricity for only 5 hours at night, from 6 to 11 at night.

According to Rizal, using diesel power has quite a lot of obstacles. Unstable
electrical voltage, system and mechanism problems, and fuel oil swelling.
Then the cost that must be borne by the community is 150 thousand per
month for diesel power with a capacity of 20 kilo Watts.

Whereas for PLTS the community is charged a fee of 100 thousand per month
for each house. The community responds positively to the presencePLTSthis.

"Alhamdulillah, the consumer response has been very positive, even to the
point of entering the electrical installation PLTS extinguished. This means that
they are quite satisfied with the use of electricity, especially with the collection
of fees," Rizal told National Geographic Indonesia.

Besides,PLTS, PublicVillageSemanting Bay recently received electricity from
PLN. However, according to Rizal, residents are a bit worried if electricity
comes in PLTS will be eliminated or transferred to a village business. Now,

Constraints for PLTS According to Rizal, that itself is minimal, as long as there
is no damage from the electricity. Meanwhile, natural obstacles usually occur
in successive rainy seasons. Maximum 8-14 days of non-stop rain. Then there
must be a day outage for storage. Temporary storage PLTS itself reaches 35
kWp.

Use PLTS This is not only economical but also environmentally friendly. If
there is an additional watt meter for PLTS then it would be better to Village
Semanting Bay.
"Our electricity is also very sufficient. Thank God we still enjoy two years of
the road. Great hope if we can add even better. This means that adding
capacity with a residential watt meter will be more efficient and
environmentally friendly," said Rizal.

Now PLTS Village Semanting bay has a total of 177 solar panels with 200
Wp, 144 battery banks, 6 infenter units, 9 SCC units, and two AC&DC panels
with 30 street lighting points.
