Energy Sources in the Philippines

1. Angat Hydroelectric Power Plant (Angat Dam )


Description:
One of the hydroelectric power plants of the Philippines that
provides the potable water in Metro Manila. It is constructed as
a concrete water reservoir and embankment hydroelectric dam
which is part of Angat-Ipo-La Mesa water system. The water
system is facilitated by Metropolitan Waterworks and
Sewerage System .
Location:
Barangay San Lorenzo (Hilltop), Norzagaray, Bulacan
Importance:
Angat Dam supplies the water to Metro Manila and other
provinces with enough potable water for the whole population.

2. Ambuklao Dam
Description:
A part of hydroelectric facility in Luzon and one of the oldest
hydroelectric power source in the Philippines. It produces
approximately 105 megawatts in Luzon grid which collects the
water from Agno River of Mount Data in Benguet.
Location:
Brgy. Ambuclao, Bokod, Benguet
Importance:
Ambuklao Dam works for hydroelectric power generation. It
also used for flood control and irrigation.

3. Malitbog Geothermal Power Station


Description:
Earth steam turbined electric generator and geothermal power
plant that supports electric power source with 160 kilowatts
per month in a 3-persons household.
Location:
Malitbog, Kananga, Leyte, Philippines
Importance:
Malitbog Geothermal Power Station contributes electrical
power system in Visayas together with other geothermal
power sources.

4. Burgos Wind Farm


Description:
The largest wind power in Southeast Asia that generates
electricity to the Luzon Grid. It has 50 turbines with 3
megawatts of energy produced per turbine.
Location:
Burgos, Ilocos Norte
Importance:
Burgos wind farm supports electricity of Luzon Grid.
5. Pililla Wind Farm
Description:
A wind energy source that has 27 turbines producing
approximately 54 megawatts and can generate up to 132,000
megawatts of the whole wind farm.
Location:
Pililla, Rizal
Importance:
Pililla wind farm supports the electricity with 66,000 local
households.

6. North Negros BioPower


Description:
One of the largest biomass power generators in the Philippines
that produce 26 megawatts to support the electricity among
265,000 people in their region.
Location:
Manapla, Negros Occidental
Importance:
North Negros BioPower contributes in supplying electricity to
their region, both in urban and rural areas.

7. Mariveles Coal-Fired Power Plant


Description:
A coal power plant that generates electricity for about 600
megawatts to the Luzon Grid in 2014. While there are additional
construction for two units with a capacity of 600 megawatts per
unit.
Location:
Mariveles, Bataan
Importance:
Mariveles Coal-Fired Powerplant is one of the electricity source
of Luzon Grid.

8. Bauang Diesel Power Plant


Description:
One of the diesel power generator in the Philippines that
provides 215 megawatts base load energy source in partnership
with the government. The fuel produces by Bauang Diesel Power
plant is used for supplying energy and generating electricity.
Location:
Bauang, La Union
Importance:
Bauang Diesel Power Plant produces fuel for supporting
electricity and energy.

9. Ilijan Combined-Cycle Power Plant


Description:
The largest natural gas powerplant in the Philippines that draws
gas from Malampaya gas field which generates capacity of 1200
megawatts.
Location:
Ilijan, Batangas
Importance:
It produces natural gas that supplies fuel for vehicles, etc.
10. Bataan Nuclear Power Plant
Description:
The only nuclear power plant in the Philippines which is
completely built but never fueled. It is considered as a
solution for 1973 oil crisis. Due to Fukushima Nuclear Plant
explosion, this power plant is not yet operated.
Location:
Morong, Bataan
Importance:
It supposed to be the action of government to assess the
problem brought by 1973 oil crisis.
