STATUS QUO

• A common product to run high temperature chain applications was the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTE. It was
able to run ovens until max. 240 °C oven temperatures. For applications like foil shrinking it is still working
very well.

• At applications that are running border line temperatures (240 °C) or higher, the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTE
was struggling. We identified the need for a higher performing H1 product.

• A global survey within the FUCHS Group showed one main target: A higher thermal stability.

• Competitor products from Lexolube, Klueber and Sogelub showed good performance, but they also showed
limitations a new product needs to exceed. So was the Lexolube product not performing well enough at 300
°C oven temperature for pizza baking.

• This all led to the decision to develop a next generation CASSIDA CHAIN OIL with exceeding thermal sta-
bility.

• The R&D department of the FUCHS LUBRITECH Division developed a new technology which exceeded the
previous requirements. Numerous long term field trials confirmed the performance of this new HT chain oil
technology.

• CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE was born

In general, there are no concerns when changing from other ester- or PAO-based oil to the CASSIDA
CHAIN OIL XTE.

COMPETITION

Many competitors that are selling into the FOOD market do offer H1 high temperature chain oils. Focus on
two competitors:

KLÜBER LUBRICATION
• Klüberfood NH1 CH 2-460
• Klüberfood NH1 CH 2-75 Plus
• Klüberfood NH1 CH 2-220 Plus
• Klüberfood NH1 CH 2-260 Plus
• Klüberfood NH1 C 6-150

Klüber is well experienced in HT chain applications. Their latest product is the Klüberfood NH1 CH 6-120 SUPREME.
This is a suspension the CASSIDA range already offered with CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTX.

The most common product from Klüber is the Klüberfood NH1 CH2-220 (Plus). This product has been replaced
successfully by CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTE up to 230 °C oven temperature. For now, we assume that the CASSIDA
CHAIN OIL XTE has a higher thermal stability than the Klüberfood NH1 CH 2-220 Plus.

INOLEX
Inolex not only offers base chemicals, like esters,
but also finished formulations. So they do offer a
so called Lexolube FG-220 OCL and Lexolube FG-100 OCL

OCL stand for Oven Chain Lubricants. This product was tested at a 300°C oven and failed. It was also part of the
lab-tests (Competitor B) and showed worse results than CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE. Therefore, it is not an option for
the global CASSIDA portfolio anymore. We assume, that some competitors are relabeling this product.

SOGELUB
Since the SOGELUB R 690 FG was working well in a
Mecatherm oven that was running at 300 °C, we declared
this as the minimum benchmark for the product development.
In the presentation this product is called “Competitor D”. It is quite like the Lexolube FG-220 OCL, but somehow the
Sogelub product got better results at the same oven.

Even though it was declared as benchmark product, the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE has a much better thermal
stability.

So far, we did not meet an H1 high temperature chain oil that is able to compete with the
performance of the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE.

CASSIDA for H1 applications and STABYLAN for other industrial applications

CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE and STABYLAN 6020 are the two high end lubricants for high temperature chain lubrica-
tion. The thermal stability of both are quite similar. However, due to the H1-limitations, STABYLAN 6020 contains
more AW and EP additives and generates a better AW-performance. Which is – by the way – superior.

All surveys and experiences led to one parameter: Thermal Stability

Even though talking about AW and EP the main challenge for the oil is to stay viscous. An excessive amount of AW
and EP additives is worthless when the lubricant is totally burned to varnish. When talking about lab tests of compet-
itors, keep an eye on the used temperatures.

What is the difference between CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTE and XTE?

The CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE is the high-end choice of H1 HT chain oils. It is based on high temperature ester
and a special additive package. The CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTE is limited to 240 °C due to ingredients like PAO. In
general, CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE can be also applied at applications where CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTE was
used.

What is the secret of CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE? What generates this performance jump?

The CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTE also contains PAO to lower the price. But only changing to a fully ester-based
product is not the solution. In the comparison, competitor B, C and D (see customer presentation) are fully ester
based but they are still much worse when it comes to thermal stability. A special additive package helps the oil to
withstand the high temperatures without increasing the IC-price too much.

The residues of the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE on the surface are getting dark black. This was not the case
when the customer used the competitor oil. What happened?

The darkening of the product is a normal process. The special additive package of the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE
prevents the oil to get solid varnish for a much longer time. Competitor products, as the SOGELUB R 690 FG, cre-
ate a brighter solid varnish, while the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE keeps being viscous. This can be seen in the
video. Nevertheless, it might look unattractive at the chain. To minimize this effect, please make sure that the oil is
not overdosed and as precisely as possible applicated on the lubrication points.

What about the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTX?

CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTX is a suspension. At temperatures > 300 °C the additives degrade. The oil still might be
viscous, but the reaction will be higher due to the degraded additives. The CASSIDA CHAIN OIL HTX, however, is
a suspension of carrier oil, solid lubricants and some specific high temperature additives. The target is to move the
suspension to the chain parts, before the carrier oil evaporate. After evaporation the solid lubricants are lubricating
the chain. Since the HTX is a suspension, a stirrer is needed for the application.

Which OEM approvals do we have for the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE?

Approvals for chains are quite unusual. Some oven manufacturers do have recommendations in their manual. Cur-
rently, we do not have any recommendation or approval by OEM for high temperature chain lubrication.

However, the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE is the best opportunity to approach your local OEM with highest chances
to convince them. The performance was already proven numerous times by trials. Please see also Trial Overview
Excel-sheet.

Was the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE already successful in use?

Yes, every trial that was started with the CASSIDA CHAIN OIL XTE ended up with the customer wanting to buy the
