WARNING!!! In case client’s PC already has Oracle client (11G or higher) – Oracle 11G installation is not
required.

In this case you just need to add text fragment in tnsnames.ora file on client’s pc:

ORACLE =
(DESCRIPTION =

(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MCSERVER)(PORT = 1521))

(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = oracle)

, where MCSERVER – either the name of Materials Control server, or it’s IP-address.

Afetr that you should check connection with server using the following command in cmd:
tnsping oracle

The result of proper work is the reply in msec. Example:

Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)

(HOST = MCSERVER)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = oracle)))
OK (10 msec)
Then you can move on to MC application installation (see guidelines below Materials Control installation)

Oracle 11G client installation

To install Oracle you need to launch file from MC Server:

Oracle Client 11g.rar. Extract it on PC, where Materials Control should be installed (when installing you should
run this file as administrator |right click on setup.exe and choose run as administrator/):

Choose Administrator and press Next.

Skip software updates then Next:

Press Next

Oracle Base should be C:\app (or D:\app) then Next:

Press Install.

Wait until the end of installtion.

Press close
Installation of Oracle has finished. Proceed to Materials Control installation.

Next, we need to configure the MC server connection:

In the Oracle installation directory .. \ product \ 11.2.0 \ client_1 \ network \ admin \ create a blank
text file tnsnames.ora with the following contents:

ORACLE =
   (DESCRIPTION =
     (ADDRESS_LIST =
       (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = IP) (PORT = 1521)
     )
     (CONNECT_DATA =
       (SERVICE_NAME = oracle)
     )
   )

, where instead of IP to specify the real IP address of the MS server.

Materials Control installation

For proper work of Materials Control version 13.40 and higher you need
.Net Framework 1.1 and 2.0 with the latest updates to be installed on your machine.

Launch file \\MC_SERVER_IP\B:\MC install\*MC_Full*\setup.exe which is located on MC

Server (you should run this file as administrator |right click on setup.exe and choose run as administrator/)

Press Run

Press Next.

Choose English and press Next.

Wait until the InstallShiled Wizard prepares the setup.

Press Next.

Press Next (Users should have privileges to access drive C:\)

Check that Oracle and SQLNet Connection name is set oracle. Press Next.

Remove Automation Server tick and press Next.

(In case client PC has already Micros 9700 applications installed, you should untick Crystal Report
Driver box. This will make Custom reports from MC application unavailable. Contact MC support team
for help).

Press Install.

Wait till the end of installation process.

Choose A accept the License Agreement and press Next.

Press Finish.

Choose No, I will restart my computer later and press Finish.

Configuring access privileges for users:

1. For local/domain users you should add Read&Write + Modify rights for folders: C:\Program
Files\Materials Control and C:\oracle\product\10.2.0. Otherwise the user (if he is not in
Administrator’s group) will not be able to use MC.

2. If you use Windows 7 - for local users in case of some specific restrictions in domain security policy
you should also give privilege to create global objects (you may delegate this privilege directly to
Group of users):

Installation is completed. You may try to login in Materials Control.

3. To make export from MC to Excel available you should add “C:\Program Files\Business
Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86” to environment SYSTEM variables “Path”.
4. Also the following parameter should be set:
