The truss shown carries a weight W=500N.

Find the tensile stress (MPa) in member AC if it has a

diameter of 8mm

The lap joint is connected by two-18mm diameter rivets.  Assuming that the axial load P =
1,500N is distributed equally among the two rivets, determine the shearing stress in the rivet
in MPa.

The lap joint is connected by two-14mm diameter rivets.  Assuming that the axial
load P = 750N is distributed equally among the two rivets, determine the maximum
average tensile stress in each plate in MPa.
Two smooth cylinders are placed in the position shown.  Cylinder A
1,000N and has a radius of 10cm while cylinder B has a radius of 8cm
and weighs 750N.  Cylinder A is connected by a 35cm string to the
smooth wall C.   What is the tensile stress in MPa, developed in the
string if the diameter of the string is 10mm and angle beta is 25°?

square shear key. The belt tensions are   T1=1800 N and T2=600 N, as shown. The
shear key dimensions are 6 mm by 6 mm by 28 mm long. Determine the shear stress

A 25.3 mm diameter bolt having a diameter at the root of the threads of 21.6 mm is
used to fasten two timbers as shown.  Determine the shearing stress in MPa in the
root of the threads if the tensile force developed in the bolt due to the tightening of
the nut is 36KN.
A cylinder which weighs W is held against a smooth incline plane by means of the weightless bar AB.

structure shown if the cross sectional area of the cable is 65mm2 and its allowable stress is
50MPa.
The bracket is supported by diameter =18 mm diameter pins at A and B (the pin at A fits in
the θ=35° slot in the bracket).  Assuming single shear and neglecting friction, determine the
shear stresses in MPa in the pin A  if P=420Newtons. Use x= 620mm and y= 280mm
A 12-inch square steel bearing plate lies between a 8-inch diameter wooden post and a
concrete footing as shown.  Determine the maximum value of the axial load P if the stress in
wood is limited to 1600 psi and that in concrete is 520 psi.
From the recently concluded Home Quarantine Vigil against Covid19 celebration, a
very large crucifix is displayed in the center of the Barangay "Humihingi ng Saklolo".
The crucifix is supported by two wires AB and AC.   The wires AB and AC are pinned
to the support at B and C.  The areas are 15mm2 for AB and 10mm2 for AC.  Neglect
the weights of the wires.  Assume that the stress in AB is limited to 25MPa and that
in AC to 40MPa.  Angle alpha (α ) is 28° and angle beta (β) is 43° .  Determine the
weight in Newton of the heaviest lantern that the system can support.
