1. PRESENTATION:
In order to use appropriately this guide, first of all, you should check the PDF file attached; in this document
you will work with. After it, you will be able to talk about some facts which are involved with the current
situation.
This guide covers one week of work, it is further divided into four hours of independent work per week. If you
have any questions do not hesitate to ask your teacher.

History of Electricity
Electricity is a natural property of every object in the universe. In other words, it has always been there, but it
was not an easy element to discover. The ancient Greeks made references to electrical phenomena. They
identified magnetism and static electricity. The issue apparently made no further progress until the 13 th century
when magnetism and other electrical phenomena became the object of systematic observation and development.
The early awareness and experiments with electricity referred to static electricity, and it was closely associated
with the study of light. In the seventeenth century Robert Boyle discovered the phenomenon known as
"Newton's rings", a set of capricious rainbow images that appear in the layer of air between two glass plates .
A few years later Sir Isaac Newton became interested in these observations and proposed that light was related
with the "movement of something", demonstrated that white light is a mixture of "lights" of different colors,
those of the rainbow, and identified primary colors. The "movement" theory was later explained both as a
"wave theory", which prevailed throughout the rennaissance, and later by the more advanced "corpuscular"
theory that suggests that light is a stream of minuscule bodies called "photons". Today both theories are still
considered valid. Despite these advances, the understanding of electricity itself was still very vague.
