1. Veneer is a result of research and development to utilize wooden materials in its widest
utilization. Panel board like MDF, HDF and particle boards are usually the substrate to this
material to be able to produce high end products. In this regards, how would you apply veneer
sheet the demand of the end user? Explain it briefly.

ANSWER:
In woodworking, veneer refers to thin slices of wood and sometimes bark, it is usually thinner than 3mm
or 1/8 inch, that are typically glued onto core panels to produce flat panels such as table tops, door,
panel for cabinets, and floor. I recommend to apply the wood veneer to covers the lower quality wood
base such as cheaper wood, MDF, HDF or particle board creating the look of solid wood furniture with a
lighter core. Because it provides the right durability and strength to all types of furniture items. It is
usually use and popularity of wood veneers have increased significantly. However people now a days
widely used in homes and offices because the item is aesthetically more appealing, make furniture more
long lasting and durable using the finished wood veneer products. This can be also environment-
friendly. And it is recommendable to manufacture of wood veneer to use and such a way that a single
log of timber would produce a lot of thin sheets which will be enough to make great wood veneer.

2. Most problems that encounter in wood working industry today is the fluctuation of supply of
wood materials. If you are the manufacturer, how would you handle the situation? Explain it
briefly.
ANSWER:

The irregularity of supply of wood materials by means of decreasing supply will costly give impact to the
economy. By this means, it develops an idea for an alternative ways to maintain the supply of furniture
in the market. As a manufacturer of furniture, wood preservation will be taking care. This will to ensure
a long life of wood that makes a part from structure wood preservation measures that includes timber
treatment, lumber treatment or pressure treatment that cant extend the life of wood, timber, wood
structures or engineered wood. Wood preservative products are those that claim to control wood
degradation, problems due to fungal rot or decay, sap stain, molds or wood-destroying insects. This is
generally increase the durability and resistance from being destroyed by insects or fungus.

3. Finishing is the last process of wood products. It plays the important operation to make the
products more attractive. If you are the head of the finishing department, what would you do to
produce high productivity and high quality output? Explain it briefly.

ANSWER:

Wood finishing refers to the process of refining or protecting a wooden surface, especially in the
production of furniture where typically it represents between 5 to 30 % of manufacturing costs. For me
finishing requires careful planning to ensure that the finished piece looks attractive, performs well in
service and meets safety and environmental requirements. In wood finishing must be taking of, the
sanding by using sanding block or power sander it removes the imperfections or nail holes on the
surface must be filled using wood putty or pores must be filled using wood filer. Once the wood surface
is prepared and stained the finish is applied. It usually consists of several coats of the process of waxing,
applying shellac, drying oil, applying lacquer and varnish or paint but each process must be followed by
sanding. Application of French polishing is finishing method of applying many thin coats using shellac.
The other way of finishing is bleaching and removal of stains, wood surfaces are occasionally affected by
various organic and inorganic stains. Stain enhances the color and appereance of the wood. For example
the oak wood affected by the beef-steak fungus has a deep rich, attractive, brown color and there is no
reason to remove the stain from the wood prior to finishing. And lastly the colouring wood can be
stained to change its color or left unstained before application of lacquer or other types of top-coats.
