(Third year Civil Engineering)Objectives of Work
1) To carry out ‘Hydrological Analysis’ of KRISHNA River Catchment, for
estimating ‘Flood discharge’ of different ‘return periods’
2) Carrying out Steady flow analysis of river near the site.
3) Carrying out Hydraulic modeling of a river stretch near the site using
"USACE HEC-RAS' River analysis Software
4) Estimating Inundation depths at the proposed site
Introduction to Google Earth Pro
1. Goggle earth is interactive map that allows users to see all over the
world. In additional to earth navigation,
2.Google earth provides a series of other tools through the desktop
application.
3. An image formed by Google earth of ground is taken through the
millions of satellites.
4.Ground profile and river profile of any place can be found out through
the Google earth pro software.Location of Site
The Krishna River is the fourth-biggest river in terms of water
inflows and river basin area in India, after
the Ganga, Godavari and Brahmaputra. The river is almost 1,288
kilometres (800 mi) long. The river is also called Krishnaveri. It is
one of the major sources of irrigation
for Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
The Praposed Site is Located at SANGLI DISTRICT in
MAHARASHTRA STATE

Bb
. Primarily HEC-RAS software is used to determined surface profile
using steady flow. HECRAS is a computer program that models the
hydraulics of water flow through natural rivers and other
channels.
N
. HEC-RAS is a computer program for modeling water flowing
through systems of open channels and computing water surface
profiles.
3, HEC-RAS finds particular commercial application in floodplain
management and [flood insurance] studies to evaluate floodway
encroachments.
4. HEC-RAS is also used for culvert design and analysis, levee studies
and channel modification studies+ River Reach :
We have drawn river reach outline as per our path of river
from upstream to downstream ,
as shown in figure below
Soruce ; HEC-RAS Software.* Cross Section:
At every placemark throughout the river path we have
drawn cross section, every cross section has 7 points at
interval of 250 meters
as shown in given figure
Soruce : HEC-RAS Software.+ Manning's n Values :
At a minimum specify Manning's n values for the left
overbank, main channel, and the right overbank.
Alternative roughness options are available from the
Optionsmenu, horizontally varying Manning's n values (up
to 15 across each cross section) and vertically varying
Manning’s n values.
Manning’s n value is taken as 0.025 for the left overbank,
main channel, and the right overbank.+ Steady Flow:
The flow in which quantity of liquid flowing through
section per second is constant is known as steady flow of
liquid.
Flow of water is taken as 2100cumecs

The project on hydrologic studies of Krishna River, Sangli,
Maharashtra gives idea about study of river and problems
corresponding to the river. There are number of software
available for hydrologic study as well as solutions; one of
the software which we have used in this project is
HEC-RAS. For HEC-RAS software Geometric data is
required, which is extracted from Google Earth Pro
software. This project is mainly focused on the hydraulic
analysis and steady flow of river.
Discharge in the river is taken 2100 cumec for steady flow
analysis. Steady flow is the discharged volume of water
with respect to time is constant. This is done using
HEC-RAS software, and cross sections of rivers are
developed using HEC-RAS software. As calculations of
hydrologic and steady flow is not esay to achieve, but
software like HECRAS made it easier and it is less time
consuming
